Why didn't they kick a FG?

It would have been a 40-41 yard field goal - pretty challenging for any HS kicker - but Anderson has a young sophomore soccer player who came out for football just this year. His PAT - albeit into a stiff wind - barely had the oomph to get there.

 

Although he kicks his kicks straight as an arrow, he has no real range at this time. I think - especially with the winds at their backs there on the final drive - AC would have gone for the FG had they kept the ball inside the 10. Maybe. But the sack pretty much took them out of field goal range.

 

Kudos to the Oldham DL for an incredible game...they sacked Russell four times and hit and harrassed him all night long. He was running for his life most of the time.

 

That said, you also have to give kudos to Russell; he was getting off throws under extreme pressure - often with defenders hanging on him - that few quarterbacks could manage. It was an impressive performance by Russell under tough circumstances.

 

BTW, for those wondering: The Oldham field was in terrific condition on Friday night. Quite a difference from previous weeks on other fields...
