October 23, 200916 yr Anybody else excited about this team? I know we still have about 15? weeks till "tip off", and...it's fb season....annnd....there's a little bit of hype about hoops.....but intrasquad fall ball is in full swing and it's kind of exciting for Wildcat baseball fans: ~Two of the top pitchers in the country (Paxton and Meyer) ~Braden Kapetyn 2009 NYCBL POY and #1 ranked prospect out of that league ~Logan Darnell 2008 NYCBL POY and #2 ranked prospect from the 09 Alaska Summer Ball League; ~ Chris Bisson 09 Cape Cod League record holder for stolen bases, All SEC infielder; ~ Two consecutive top ranked recruiting classes (#5 - 08; #6/#15 - 09) ~ Several KY kids in the mix ....just to name a few highlights.... Went down for intrasquad last weekend and it's a deeper, talented group top to bottom...Kapetyn and Niddifer both hit monster dingers.....looking forward to seeing more this weekend if the weather cooperates... It looks like a lot was added both offensively as well as pitching depth, should be some good competition for pt...which is a great problem to have! Go Cats!
October 24, 200916 yr Should be exciting in Lexington this Spring! Hendu and the staff will definitely be ready!
October 24, 200916 yr UK will definitely be competitive, but so will the rest of the SEC. As dominant as SEC baseball is on a national scale, SEC baseball is every bit as good if not better. But should be a fun year!
October 24, 200916 yr Talk out of Lexington is that Luke will be "just fine!" That's straight from the horses mouth!
October 27, 200916 yr From the UK Baseball web site Freshman catcher Luke Maile added one single, two RBI and a stolen base, also throwing out Navarro Hall as he attempted to steal second base. Hall, a junior outfielder, ripped a triple that painted the first-base line, scoring on Nidiffer’s homer, also contributing a single, hit to the opposite field, on an eight-pitch at bat.
October 29, 200916 yr Is Cory Farris still a catcher? Or is he just an outfielder now? He batted .310 as a freshman, so I sure he will be playing a lot this year still.
October 30, 200916 yr Is Cory Farris still a catcher? Or is he just an outfielder now? He batted .310 as a freshman, so I sure he will be playing a lot this year still. I am not positive, but I believe Cory played outfield and DH strictly last year.
October 30, 200916 yr I am not positive, but I believe Cory played outfield and DH strictly last year. Correct. Cory has never been a catcher at UK.
October 30, 200916 yr Is Cory Farris still a catcher? Or is he just an outfielder now? He batted .310 as a freshman, so I sure he will be playing a lot this year still. Cory went through a hot and cold stretch. Started out hot then went very cold in SEC play and then (I think) finished up fairly well. Not atypical for a freshman in the SEC.
November 10, 200916 yr My son talked to Luke the other day at UK and said they just finished up Fall Practice the other day. Seems Luke finished off fall practice batting .333 with 2 HRs. Not bad for a freshman going against some quality SEC pitching from his own team...
November 11, 200916 yr Been told that Luke is in the fight to be the #2 catcher on the team and thus be on the traveling squad. First home game vs. Murray State University Feb 24 and unless I am dead, I will be there!
November 11, 200916 yr Author Been told that Luke is in the fight to be the #2 catcher on the team and thus be on the traveling squad. First home game vs. Murray State University Feb 24 and unless I am dead, I will be there! They just released the schedule (I don't know how to insert a link ) http://www.ukathletics.com / baseball / schedule results... anyway, I think that game is AT MSU?
