Highlands vs Covington Catholic Frosh Finals Predictions

Featured Replies

I think that may have happened in the past, but I'm not positive. TheOldGuy or CovCathiRadio could probably clarify that though. I think it's definitely a school's right to prohibit them from broadcasting, for sure, but I don't think - at least at this point in time - that it would be worth their while to do so. I can't imagine that there are that many people opting to stay home and listen right now when they would otherwise go to the game.

I don't recall any team that didn't allow the broadcast.

I thought there might have been a playoff game 2 or 3 years back that they were asked not to broadcast...I could be wrong though.

I know the prior game was broadcasted and I thought the guys in the booth did a great job! I couldn't make the game due to working Wednesday evening. But doesn't this take away from the gate receipts? (Especially in consideration the folks broadcasting are from Cov Cath.) Hosting this event- lights, cameras, concession clean-up, etc. is a major cost to the hosting school.

I just wonder how many actually stay home at Cov Cath due to the guys in the broadcasting booth. They are excellent, but are they keeping the faithful off campus? Seemed to me the home bleacher section was skimpy at the last HHS / Cov Cath contest.

I highly doubt this deters the fans from CovCath. I listened to the last game on the web and the CovCAth radio guys did a great job. They do a good job of having guests in the booth and also reading emails from fans. They mentioned the last time that there were people that sent emails from all over the world. In fact Jac Collinsworth's grandparents who live in Florida were tuning in and sent a kind message thanking them for the live webcast.

Nice job and those guys have come a long way from the first webcast i listened to a few years back.

Go Birds !!!

Let's just hope the "Peach" stays home this week.

What, you don't like "Girls just wanna have fun" during timeouts. Now that really gets the boys fired up..:thumb:

I think those were basketball games that they were not able to broadcast for some various reasons.

I remember GT was not able to do a few games for some bogus reasons.

One time have we ever been told we could not broadcast and that was The Bank of Kentucky Center for the 9th region tournament and I think we all know what kind of fire storm that was. There is no way that the broadcasts are a factor when it comes to gate money. There is a cooperation among the schools that is second to none. One of the best places we've ever been treated is Highlands. Whether it's making room for us at the table for basketball or finding us a place in the library to do football. Carolyn Smith is the best. There is a huge rivalry between fans and players. This does not enter the booth between support staff members nor should it. We depend on that cooperatoin. If we keep a few people home, it would never be considered when deciding whether a school's radio team can broadcast. That could be the most ridiculous thing I've read in a while. We get along too well and that would certainly strain an otherwise great relationship. It's just not worth a few bucks. Too many people rely on it. This was started as a service to our fans that cannot attend. No school would want to get in the way of that. We may have 150 people listen to a non Highlands game and over 300 for a Highlands/CovCath game and many are Bluebirds. I don't think anyone wants to own up to keeping the option away from the fans for a few bucks.

You aren't the only person who has to work; and don't forget about those physically unable to attend these game, who love to listen in.

You would be surprised at how many aunts, uncles, grandparents etc., who live out of state, who listen in for each and every broadcast. Heck, we even had one soccer parent who listened to a match while on business in Spain.

I think you have a point there. People have other things going in their lives and unless you are directly tied to those players, why not just listen to it at home.

But I will be there with my 4 year old daughter. She wants to see her cousin play well for the Colonels....and I just want to see the game. My 2 year old girl is not so interested.

A 2 year old girl NOT interested in a Freshman football game!!!!! :scared: That would never happen in FT. :D

Beautiful night for the game.

Thanks for the response and your opinion. As stated, I could not make the last frosh Cov Cath / HHS contest and you really did a quality broadcast. I really appreciated the broadcast as welll as the small contingent of fans working with me that evening. Hopefully, in the future we will be able to provide the same service for the folks in Ft Thomas. When is Cris retiring?

Did not mean to rustle any feathers... just floating a thought out there.:thumb:
