Casey County will travel to Lancaster this Friday night for a key Class 3A District 5 matchup with Garrard County. This game didn't appear to mean much a couple weeks ago but after two straight losses for Garrard County the Golden Lions are in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2002 while the Rebels of Casey County are perhaps one win away from making their first postseason appearance since 2006.

In truth, the postseason picture will likely be much clearer before Friday's game kicks off. The two other players in this race (Wayne County and Taylor County) will square off on Thursday evening. Below is a look at how this could potentially play out:

If Taylor County wins:

-a Garrard victory would put Garrard in 3rd, Wayne in 4th, and Casey out

-a Casey victory would force a three-way tie; Garrard would likely finish 3rd, Casey 4th, and Wayne out (based on current tiebreakers)

If Wayne County wins:

-a Garrard victory would force a three-way tie; Garrard would likely finish 2nd, Taylor in 3rd, and Wayne in 4th (based on current tiebreakers)

-a Casey victory would put Casey in 4th, and Garrard out

On offense Garrard County has struggled in three of their four district games, with some blame going toward poor field conditions. The Lions are averaging 27 points per game. Casey County is averaging 17 points per game. On defense the Golden Lions are allowing 29.5 points per game while the Rebels are allowing 34 points per game.

Garrard County and Casey County will be meeting for the 20th time this Friday night. The Golden Lions have dominated the series compiling an 18-1 record. The only Rebel win in the series came in 2006 when Casey County won 24-0, on their way to their last playoff appearance. The Rebels have never won in Lancaster.

This is an absolutely pivotal game for both clubs. Garrard County's offense has had a tendency to grow stagnant in recent weeks and the Lions will need to find more ways to get the ball in the hands of Tyler Ray if they are to put away Casey County. Casey, on the other hand, seems to be playing much better after a slow start. The Rebels have two wins over Powell County and Jackson County in the last month and lost an overtime battle at Taylor County two weeks ago - the same Taylor County club that beat Garrard last weekend. The Rebels have traditionally been a strong rushing team and that is an area in which Garrard County has really struggled this season. This game has potential to be a much closer game than many think.

Garrard County wins this one. :thumb:

Garrard County should take this one pretty easily. But then I thought they'd beat Taylor County easily too. I don't think the Golden Lions get upset 2 weeks in a row. Garrard 35-6.

I was very surprised by the Garrard loss to Taylor last week. Maybe they were unable to recover from the emotional loss to Somerset, but that makes this week MUCH more important.

I think Garrard wins, but closer than many think. Casey is an improved squad. Senior night and the playoffs at statek should help motivate the seniors to play even harder.

One day away from this one. After a beautiful week in Garrard County is appears that the rain will be coming in just in time for another wet Friday night. The good news is that Garrard's field is football only (no soccer) and hasn't hosted a high school football game since Friday, October 2. The middle school team did play on Tuesday, October 13, but the weather was very good that night. Here's hoping that the field will hold up well - the guys who work on the Dyehouse Stadium field do a fine job and I expect nothing but the best tomorrow night.

As for the game, as was stated before it should be a good one. Hopefully Garrard will be able to get free with their speed and put Casey County away. And as for the playoffs, well, we'll know much more in about four hours when the Wayne/Taylor game ends.

Garrard Co.by at least 3 TDs.

Wayne and Taylor play tonight?

Wayne 14 Taylor 7.

Alright, with Wayne winning over Taylor on Thursday we know everything for tonight.

One: A Garrard County win forces a three-way playoff between the Lions, Wayne, and Taylor.

Two: A Casey County win puts Wayne in second, Taylor in third, and the Rebels in fourth.

So if Garrard wins, they are #2. If they lose they are out. Is that correct?

Looks like it.

I heard Casey County schools were closed. Will that have any impact on the game?

I'm going with Garrard in this one.
