It was a defenseless receiver, and has little to do with helmet to helmet or being late. The ball was no where near Chad and if it was, there would have been to call.

You hit the nail on the head there. For the people around the country arguing that it was a bad call, it's almost like the hitting the QB low rule. A lot of times it is the right call. It's just not a good rule. There is a difference.

Being late played a major role in it IMO
October 12, 200916 yr Doubtful most make that throw. Peyton Mannings touched on this after his performance last night. Saying something along the lines of, "you can't bank on them bringing the blitz they are showing. You make a pre-snap read and a post-snap read. On that play my read switched and I hit him with that pass." That's coming from one of the best in the business. Sorry, but Palmer needs to see a player coming under the route and not hit them in stride. (ie Woodson & Reed.) I agree. It was the correct pre-snap read, but the check he gave right before the snap (some kind of hand signal pointed directly at Chad) gave the play away. Ed Reed also knew that safety was blitzing, and that the check Carson would make would be to run Chad directly where that safety was. Ed Reed saw the check and jumped the route. As a QB you can't assume the safety wont make it there. Carson's watched enough film to know Ed Reed can make that play. Its on Carson. I just wish they would've called more deep double move routes. Ed Reed is a ball hawk, and is suseptable to those type of plays. Imagine a post-go on that play... Touchdown City.
October 12, 200916 yr Being late played a major role in it IMO It did look a little late in real time but Chad never even landed before he got slammed.
