October 18, 201015 yr Anybody else following this new development regarding this story? Steve Skidmore, a local businessman who runs several local Skyline Chili restaurants with his wife apparently is the person who buried the money. Skidmore was seen in photographs with Erpenbeck in Key West living the high life and they were next door neighbors as well as very good friends. Skidmore is now in some very hot water after lying to the FBI about burying the 250K. Apparently, Erpenbeck told an FBI agent that Skidmore buried the cash in an attempt to get his stay in prison reduced (some friend). According to state documents, Skidmore has recently put numerous assets in his wife's name. This story would make for a great movie. Personally, I think Skidmore knows where more cash is hidden. He is now looking at 5 years in prison and a 250K fine. Edited October 18, 201015 yr by RomanEmpire

The family owns Skyline Chili in Ft Wright and maybe the one in Oakbrook.

Wright, Burlington (Oakbrook), and Union. Anybody who's ever worked at any of his stores knows that Steve is a less than savory person. I wouldn't trust him any further than I can spit.
October 18, 201015 yr Author Ft. Wright, Burlington (Oakbrook), and Union. Anybody who's ever worked at any of his stores knows that Steve is a less than savory person. I wouldn't trust him any further than I can spit. Plus he doesn't put enough chili on his dogs. I'm a Zang guy myself.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Skidmore married into the Skyline business. I think his sister-in-law operates the Hebron location.
October 18, 201015 yr Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Skidmore married into the Skyline business. I think his sister-in-law operates the Hebron location. You're correct about him marrying in. I'm not sure who is actually "in charge" over all, but I know at least the Ft. Wright store is Steve's to run.
December 14, 201015 yr http://nky.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20101214/NEWS010704/312140041/Guilty-plea-over-Erpenbeck-cash From the article: "A former neighbor and golfing partner of disgraced home builder Bill Erpenbeck pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to lying to the FBI about burying stolen money at Summit Hills Country Club." "As authorities were literally digging up the cash in October 2009, an FBI agent met Skidmore at Montgomery Inn in Fort Mitchell, according to the plea agreement. After Skidmore again denied any knowledge of hidden assets, the FBI agent informed him of the dig at the golf course. 'At that time, (Skidmore) admitted he had hidden the money that had been given to him to hold by Erpenbeck,' reads the plea agreement. '(Skidmore) then agreed to and did assist the FBI in locating the money at the golf course.' "
December 14, 201015 yr Federal agents focused on Skidmore as they searched for the $34 million Erpenbeck was ordered to forfeit after his 2003 conviction for stealing millions of dollars from banks and home buyers. Some off shore account far far away.
December 15, 201015 yr His house appears to be empty. I guess he's full-time in Sarasota now. The article says he lives in FL now.
December 15, 201015 yr Does anyone have an issue with Skidmore's sentencing? Telling a lie to a federal agent gets you 5 years? Yikes.
December 15, 201015 yr I could be totally wrong here, but something about this case tells me that Bill's wife is involved somehow....................

December 15, 201015 yr Dang, Mr. Erpenbeck is keeping me out of summer school. I couldn't stand summer school.
