A LOT of statisticians give what I like to call "Pile On" Points. Meaning, if a kid is around a tackle and sort of dives on the pile, they will get credit or half the credit for making the tackle...happens a lot more than people realize and they definitely add up!

 

Only two players can receive credit for a tackle and only two types of tackles from where I'm from, solo or two assists.

I would say tackling stats are a lot tougher to keep acurate at game time because their just tougher to see. Film review would be the most accurate.

Film review is the only way.

I'm not aware that Highlands tracks defensive stats other than fumble recoveries and interceptions. But, after watching tapes of each game I'd say Brandon Roller would be the leading tackler followed by Cameron Dierig.

Drew Rice (Ludlow) 119 total tackles in 6 games.

Sam Wilson (Greenwood) 98 total tackles in 7 games.

Matt Smith (Greenwood) 86 total tackles in 7 games.

 

That is alot of tackles they must be the only ones who play defense and the other teams gets about 60 offensive plays on them a game. That is unheard of in my book. I am not doubting those stats but are they just getting tackles by just being close to the ball.:idunno:

I have seen three Ludlow games this year and the stats for Drew Rice are dead on. In back to back games he had 21 tackles against Shawnee and 23 tackles against Brossart. He is a legit D II or maybe even a small D I player.

:thumb: Agree. I also think there are schools out there that don't differentiate between a solo tackle and an assist (scored as .5 tackle). So if you have a stat person that gives someone a "tackle" for every time they "pile on" or are near the play and then score everything as a full "tackle", it certainly elevates the numbers. Not saying this applies to any particular person in this thread, but this certainly occurs at some schools.

MaxPreps stats are entered by a team coach or designate. I have noticed a number of the state's top performers do not have their results posted, so hope by the end of the season everyone can get their team's top performers entered for comparison purposes.

I would love to see the whole state's tackles reported even if it was a little bit questionable.

^ This is true. But I did see Greenwood play last week, and the Wilson kid seemed to be in on every play (and had two sacks). I don't recall the Smith kid's name being called much, and the Madison kid made a few plays.

 

Sam Wilson definitely has a nose for the ball, but take it from some one that has compiled 7 films of him now; those stats aren't legit. Almost 100% positive. It happens with every school I do film on, and sometimes the parents get furious with me when they get their films, because their son had 145 tackles on the year and I don't have 145 tackles in their film. And I look for them on every play. Sam's are probably not too terribly far off of there, but take for instance their game against Allen County-Scottsville. He was credited with 27 tackles (16 solo, 11 assisted). I could not find more than 16 total.

It's what happens when stats aren't reviewed by tape. It happens with offensive stats as well, though a little less. You're asking someone, sometimes even standing on field level, to know exactly who made the tackle, and who assisted it. They're making a judgment in about 5 seconds on the play.

It seems amazing to me that Greenwood High has 4 of the top 10 players in the state in total tackles. Those four kids average 47 tackles per game by themselves. Greenwood's defense must be on the field for a TON of plays. What colleges are looking at Drew Rice? He has good size according to MaxPreps profile and is averaging almost 20 tackles per game.

I think a good example is how many times anouncers make the wrong call on tackles a most of the time they have a preety good view of the field.

Some teams could be counting an assist as a full tackle this happens alot most places count an assist as a half of a tackle in the stat book.

IMO 2 kids that I have seen play this year in a few games is #15 Lou Central and #28 for Lou. ST.X . They are always in or on the tackle
