Some might consider the "founding" of our country as "stealing" it from those that were already here. Let's not pretend that our forefathers were blamelessly "Christian."

What makes this country great is that we all have the freedom to be different. Not some ridiculous implication that we should all be Baptists, contrary to how some folks see it.

 

Did I say Baptist? I said Christians. Believers in Jesus Christ. I do not remember designating a religion? What made this country great was people that are different from different backgrounds having a core belief in being an AMERICAN CITIZEN. Now if you are an AMERICAN Citizen, you have no rights, you have to hit "1" for english. If you are not and AMERICAN Citizen, the country is yours for the taking. There is no core belief in AMERICA any more. The ACLU and Dems have made sure of that.

 

Before you jump on it, I did not say to keep foreigners out, I am saying that they need to become AMERICAN Citizens or go home. I am saying that they MUST learn to read, write and speak english. Our tax dollars should not be spent to allow them to do anything in this country in their native tongue. They should ALL pay taxes.

 

Someone tell me what country would bend over backwards to ensure that AMERICANS could get by in their country without becoming citizens or paying taxes?

What does the historical "core belief" in American look like? Our ideals were "all men are created equal."

 

But until the late '40's and early 50's, if you were African-American in this country, the core values would not allow you to serve in the Military defending these values along side White soldiers.

 

The core values did not open all the public schools to all citizens until the late 50's and 60's.

 

The core values did not count women to be equal in citizenry until the early 20th century.

 

The core values did not keep treaties with the Cherokee and other indian nations very well either.

 

I'm sorry to bash but the statement of "core values" as if ever American at one time or another believed the exact same thing about what this country means is simply not based in historical action or fact IMO. To pretend that the "barbarians" are at the door is to ignore that they've always been there.

 

BTW, the Christmas debate is interesting when even my Baptist forebearers did not celebrate or acknowledge Christmas as late as the 19th century. Some even went so far as to call it: "the superstitious relic of the Scarlet 'woman of ill repute' (sic)." (Leon McBeth The Baptist Heritage)

Contrary to your assesment I don't think of myself as being first off the freakin' boat, or last for that matter. However I am the son of an immigrant, who came to this country because of the freedoms and opportunities that it has. Because of that and where I grew up, I know lots of immigrants, who take pride in being Americans. Most of them are shocked and saddened by the number of people born in this country who are fighting to give up freedoms or to take them away from others.
