I cannot remember so much volatility in the poll before. Ole Miss drops 17 spots? Cal 18 spots? Iowa jumps in from no votes to 13th? Oregon from no votes to 16th? I'm not saying those are wrong, but I can't remember ever seeing that type of movement outside of Michigan dropping from 5th to out after losing to Appalachian State.

 

I got pretty close to the top 10 from the Top 5 thread. Just a team or two off. I think they dropped Penn State way too far for a loss to a team that was preseason top 25 and is in fact still undefeated.

 

I had no problem with Cal. They had played a somewhat questionable schedule and got absolutely blasted by Oregon. Iowa deserves top 25, but not 13. They haven't been impressive other than the PSU game.

 

I think yoiu see all this happening because we really don't know who is 4-25 right now. The top 3 are set, but the other 22 are tough to figure out.

The Brian Kelly experience. As long as he's there they will always have a good record. I think he's one of the top 5 coaches in America who haven't won a National Title. I might even take an argument that he's in the top 5 regardless of if he's won a title or not, but that's a matter of preference, IMO.

No doubt. Plus his first full recruiting class from 08 is making a huge impact so far this season. Several of whom weren't really ready for action last year, but he knew he'd need them to get a feel for the college game because he was losing so much to graduation after last season. I know the odds he sticks around long term are slim and I'm enjoying the ride while he's here...

Like I said, I'm not saying it's wrong, just uncommon. I absolutely agree that Cal deserves to drop that far, if not further. Though Oregon is a good team, that was simply dominated by a better team in Boise State.

I think the best you can hope for is that he leaves the program like Dan Hawkins left the Boise program. As long as he has stocked up on players, and UC hires a quality HC they will be fine. I think that if the "Big Guy" at Notre Dame doesn't get canned in the near future Kelly could be there for a little longer than expected. I don't see him leaving for anything less than a top notch program. Notre Dame, Ohio State, or someone of that caliber. There aren't alot of those jobs that should be open this off season, unless something drastic happens. Maybe the Rich Rod thing ends up being something major and he gets fired (I don't see that happening), but where could he go now. He is too good of a coach to leave for anything other than the top of the top. JMO. I'm not a Cincy fan, but I do really like Brian Kelly. Heck I just like good coaching though.

I know. I kind of like really fluid rankings though. I think you should have to compete every week for your ranking. I don't even care to see an undefeated team fall in the rankings, if it's obvious that another team is out performing them.

There are some family related things that I really can't disclose that make me think he'll be here for a while, but you just never know. If he does leave at some point, all you can do is hope the right guy is hired and keeps the momentum going. Still never thought I'd see that day UC was in the Top 10 before he showed up for his introductory presser...

Quality BCS level road wins? Check.

 

Big name coach and offensive stars putting up huge numbers? Check.

 

Pasting of the one cupcake on schedule (I'll try and refrain from a UL joke here for a month or so)? Check.

 

If you are going to use the Fresno St game, you better come with complete knowledge of the injury situation in the Cats secondary that created a drastic shift in the normal game plan.

As for Boise, when have they ever proven to be overrated? They don't have a great schedule, but they can play with almost anyone.

 

Going by the season so far, UC deserves a high ranking, IMO. I have stated before I don't that they are title worthy, but they have played the schedule they have and have done well.

 

I wouldn't have a problem with a one loss team passing them at the end of the season if they had earned it, but for right now their fine, IMO.

I disagree with your statement about Boise, I think this team would legitimately be in the game with any team in the country and apart from USC and Florida, I think they could beat any team in the country. This team is for real and they have arguably the best coach in the country not named Saban, Meyer or Carroll.

They will be like every other team, get the high ranking then get beat the next week and prove they don't deserve it. It's becoming a popular trend.

I think Michigan needs to be higher on the list.
