This game was hard fought! Mason needed a big stop with seconds to go in the game and the defense made it happen. Hats off to to the Royals they played their hearts out! Need to do a better job tackling. They gave up too many rushing yards! Rowan's running back is all that! Look out hes only a sophamore!:taz:

Just a fantastic game in Mason County tonight. A shame either team had to lose this one.

I’m not surprised by which team won this game, but am shocked at how close the score was. That’s what I get for making assessments based on the Vikings of yesteryear instead of the current one. Didn’t Rowan take a hiatus from district competition just a few years ago?

 

ryan is right….Rowan Co and Lawrence Co have both significantly raised the competitive bar in Region 1 District 8.

I am shocked at how close this one was. I greatly underestimated Rowan, they obviously played one heck of a football game and are bettter than I gave them credit for.

Now there's a great newspaper headline for someone...Turna-Rowan!

Defense actually played the larger role in this game of offensive powerhouses. While giving up yards, both defenses managed to slow the other teams offense just enough. Both teams scored well below their average.

 

Rowan had more team speed than I expected and were well coached. It appears the Rowan coaches had reviewed game film and were well prepared to what Mason had to throw at them.

 

This game will benefit Mason. It's the close, tough games that prove your metal and improve your team.

Correction. The running back from Rowan (Cross) is a junior. Not a Sophomore.:thumb:

Watched alot of football in my life but saw two things I have never saw before in a football game. Rowan kicked off and the kicker kicked the ball into the second row of the vistor stands in the air. The worst kick ever!!!! Second, after some real stupid penalities on Rowan, they had a fourth down and 50 yards to go. Just some interesting tid bits.

The recipe for beating Mason County is easy, have a stud running back, don't shoot yourself in the foot with stupid and repeated penalties and keep the ball out of their playmaker's hands(especially Gilbert), let anyone beat you but him. Except for the stud running back part, Montgomery,Bourbon and now Rowan have all failed at this. Thought MC's run defense would get better as the year goes on and thought this game would have been a blow out, does MC face any more good running backs?, if not, then the blow out part should stand just because of their weapons. But oppposing teams should take their chances on Harris,Lang and Jones, but don't let Gilbert beat you.

Yes he was; very elusive and hard to bring down. Obvious strategy in the kicking game for both sides was to take the penalty and put the ball on the 35 rather than risk a big return.

 

 

And boy...do I hate that rule. Enforcing a re-kick from 5 yds. further back is much, MUCH better IMO.

 

Special teams is every bit as much a part of the game as is offense and defense. I don't understand why the rules allow the kicking team an -almost- free pass vs. a runback.

I wouldn't take any chances on any of those players. All of them are all very dangerous.
