I was just wondering if this was a JV game or JV/Varsity game. The Muskies looked real good. I found out after the game that the Muskies had FIVE REGULAR VARSITY STARTER PLAYERS play in this game. I guess they did look real good. You look real when your var. starters are going up against two freshman lineman, a freshman QB (and by the way this freshman QB picked apart the secondary) and eight other non starters. To verify you can ask your Head football coach. Is it win at all cost in muskie land? I know it wasn't a numbers problem. I seen appx. 30-40 players in green. Our coach asked Coach Copley after the game why he did that. Copley said they were only first year starters. Somebody please explain to me WHY this happened. I just lost alot of respect for Copley. If I was a Muskie mom or dad who had a REAL JV player on the team. I think I would be asking ?'s. And with all the extra talent you had on your team. Why did it come down to us dropping the ball in the endzone as time was about to run out. With all the extra talent you had don't you think you should of kicked our butts. What is going on in Muskie land. Parents on the muskie side must have noticed. Other then that I guess it was a really good victory. Something to grow on. Parents are the bane of high school sports. It's virtually the same at every school and in every sport. Lots of crying, lots of feeling junior is being treated unfairly. Don't the coaches realize that we live in an entitlement era? Plenty of tears to go around to fill the river.

Some of these parents you just can't please. It's the same parents that didn't want Farley to QB. Then when Rister had a bad series. They yell put Farley in. Or when you run the ball and don't get any yards they yell why didn't you pass. And on and on. You can't please all the people all the time. Do you think any of those parents know or even come close to knowing as much as this Raceland coaching staff. I think not. I would challenge them to go down and even put 11 kids in positions. Heck we won 12 games last year and I still herd people crying in the stands. They want the best, expect the best and when the team doesn't deliever each and everytime they are wrong. They are great fans though. They just want to win.

Yeah doc, and I for one am very tired of it. Nathaniel is only in 2nd grade so I have to hear it for awhile. Sadly, we hear it at the 2nd grade level, too. We have had parents ask why we play who we play and how come so in so is playing that position. Very, very tired of it. I guess I should've let them coach JFL........wait a minute, they didn't sign up or come to any organizational meetings. Too bad, maybe I'd have learned something.

A win deserves a "good job" comment, IMO. I am not saying that Greenup doesn't need to work on things. Pass coverage, mental mistakes, etc. these things will improve with time and effort.

 

I understand. And your kids played hard. Coach Copley has them giving 100% every play. I sat in the stands watching and told people how much effort Greenup plays with now. And when you run as hard as your backs do. Sometimes you fumble the ball. I'm very happy for your kids. Just ? why varsity players had to play.

BTW, spindoc, I absolutely love the word, "BANE". I haven't heard it in a while. I used "ascertain" the other day. Don't be suprised if I use bane in a post in the future.:thumb:

The players last night who were varsity players, are as Coach Copley said, first year varsity players. Many of them "share" positions and do not play every series on Friday night. I can't speak for the Coach but I am sure he just wants them to get better, and that is what JV games are for, to get players more experienced in game situations. As the season goes on fewer of them will play JV as they earn and keep their Varsity positions.

Just to clarify all of our players are young and did not start last year and if you did'nt start last year you didn't get any reps whatsoever you were just another body to fill a uniform. The only players I can see even in question would have been some linemen and just like I said they lose their positions from week to week. For example the kids that started against Ashland did not start against Notre Dame and the kids that started against them did not start against Raceland. So have they started varsity this year probably yes but they are not permanant varsity starters, because they are not good enough yet .But with enough reps they will be someday. This is not taking any thing away from these kids either, because it is not their fault that they were not taught in the previous years.

Rams freshman QB plays special teams varsity, and played a series of downs against Ashland, after we were blown out, Rister was still hurt and I am sure coaches at that point couldn't risk Farley getting hurt. I am ok with all that played the JV Greenup game, can only help our young players.

A sometimes special teams player on the varsity. And a one series QB against Ashland at the end of the game only because Rister and Farley both were hurt . I don't think is the same as Full time starter vs Ashland, Port. ND, and lots of playing time vs Russell. But thats fine. If our no time starter players on the varsity played that well vs Greenups varsity starters/sometimes varsity starters and did that well. I think looks alright . :thumb::thumb::dancingpa

This is nothing new and doesn't surprise me at all. It's always done this way, I played a JV game against almost the whole Varsity Lewis Co. team once. And played one against Greenup as well.

Coach Copley knows what he's doing with personell, maybe he shames a player by making him play jv, to bring out the best, in so and so player. What ever he does is for the betterment for the kid and the team.:ohbrother:

When I was a junior Coaches tried to "shame" a player in my class as well. They shamed him with over 150 yeards rushing and 2 tds against East Carter. Needless to say I dont think that worked well:lol: so it was never done again. But I do get your point in what you are saying.

All this talk about who Greenup had on the field, but I have not heard much about Jett Troxler, who I know had lots of varsity time Friday. Also heard Austin Blakenship's name Friday which I'm sure there is a few more. But to say this game was lost by a dropped pass is beyond me.Greenup held the Rams 1st & 15 on 20 yard line,then on 4th down pass was blocked and pass interference was called so with penalty Rams had the ball on the 3 yard line.Boys that's 1st and goal and they tried 4 more times still did not score, so to say it was just a dropped pass Rams had 8 tries from the 20 yard line. Hats off to the Musketteers for a job very well done. Two sweet victories for some really hard working boys.
