Mr Loaf is quite possibly the best pure vocalist (male) in rock & roll ever.

Best pure female R&R vocalist I'm torn between Ann Wilson and Annie Lennox.

However, my personal favorites are Eric Burdon and Janis Joplin.

Definitely Top 5. I'm not sure how I would rank them with the exception of Freddie Mercury at #1.

Tim McIlrath (Rise Against)

Zack de la Rocha (Rage Against the Machine)

Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day)

Can't argue with this list........and so thorough with bands listed, too. :D

As far as current vocalists, I would also add Chris Dautry (sp)?. I realize many would discount him due to American Idol but I really like his voice.

Chris Daughtry.......sorry for the spelling goof. I knew it wasn't right but I couldn't fix it in my head, too many voices.

I could have listed out each and every band, but figured I would only list the one's people might not know.

Everyone should know that Robert Plant was the lead singer for Zeppelin, but they might not know Bruce Dickinson is the lead singer for Iron Maiden.

Chris Cornell

Eddie Vedder

Layne Staley

M. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)

Chris Robinson (The Black Crowes)

Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon)

Robert Plant

Brandon Boyd

Jon Bon Jovi

Freddie Mercury

Gavin Rossdale (Bush)

Kevin Martin (Candlebox)

Mike Patton (Faith No More)

Ed Kowalczyk (Live)

Liam Gallagher (Oasis)

Phil Anselmo (Pantera)

Jacoby Shaddix (Papa Roach)

Maynard (Tool and A Perfect Circle)

Zack de la Rocha (Rage Against the Machine)

Michael Stipe (REM)

Tim McIlrath (Rise Against)

Scott Weiland

Bert McCracken (The Used)

Mick Jagger

There's many, many more... But that's the ones I can think of right now.

The singer for Avenged Sevenfold is nothing but a screamer. Im sorry but thats not singing. :puke:

Well, some of us music lover's might know most of the bands but you did improve my knowledge by listing a few of the bands.:thumb:

1. The question isn't who has the best singing voice, it's who are your favorite rock vocalists...

2. While he does his fair share of screaming, M. Shadows has a nice singing voice that he pulls out when appropriate.

"Dear God", "Gunslinger", "Seize the Day", "Betrayed", "Until the End", "Warmness of the Soul"... Just a few examples off the top of my head. "Warmness of the Soul" has a few off-key moments, but still.

Back in the early days ("Sounding the Seventh Trumpet"), I will give you that he screamed significantly more than he does now. Coincidentally, I don't like that music as much as I like their newer stuff... I loved the last two albums, but I am not big into screaming all the way through songs. I can tolerate doses of it, though. I actually have come to prefer it.

I'm intrigued as to why you called him out, though, instead of some of the other guys on the list...
