The photo was from the 2003 season, Coach Hart’s first encounter with Ivan McGlone.

 

If you notice, there are 5 Tomcats in on that tackle…with another closing. The 03 Defensive Cats were fast, but the current version has taken overall speed to a new level.

 

Ashland won at the Hank that year….33-14.

Because this is a rival game, I think it will be closer. Ashland by 14.

From all the talk about the Tomcats speedy defense this year, it sure sounds like Russell better run right at the speed or get the speed moving in the wrong direction. The first option would require them overpowering Ashland, which is admittedly doubtful given that this isn't one of the bigger and stronger Russell teams. The second option would require perfect execution by all 11 guys on offense. It sounds like it's the only option Russell has in this game, though.

 

I saw Ashland defend the Russell running attack last year. It looked like the picture you posted above Painter. Last week was much the same for Russell against Ironton. If they are to move the ball any at all this week, the players are going to have to execute to perfection and the coaches are going to have to call a genius game. Good luck to the Devils!

I agree. So many people get upset for anyone giving an opinion if it is against their team. When I'm wrong, which is often, I always say it and give koudos where they are do. Blackshirts, I don't think you were disrespectful. Heck, you have picked against Raceland many times and I didn't agree but it was your opinion.

Hey gang, can you make it 4 of us. I may not be as active as I used to be, since my 'dog' is no longer part of the fight, but I still enjoy going to all the home games and watching each team. My son and I have been comparing notes about this game. He has seen Ashland this year, but hasn't gotten to his old stomping grounds to watch Russell yet. I have seen Russell but not Ashland. So after comparing, I believe that even though the game is at the HANK, I think Ashland has too many weapons this year to for Russell to try and stop. I do think it will be a good game until thru the 3rd quarter, but I think Ashland will make a play sometime during the 4th to eek out a victory. The ones that know me on BGP, know that I have never tried to post a score, so I won't start now, but I do not believe it will be a blowout. And I would not be shocked if Russell came away with a victory, because I believe unlike last years well documented morale problems, this team does show more heart and fight in them.

 

Hope to post some more as the season wears on.
