Run To State Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 WASHINGTON (CNN) – Opposition to the war in Afghanistan is at an all-time high in a new national poll. Fifty-seven percent of Americans questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Tuesday say they oppose the U.S. war in Afghanistan, with 42 percent supporting the military mission. The percentage of those in opposition to the war is up 11 points since April, and is the highest ever in CNN polling since the launch of the U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan soon after the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001. The poll indicates that opposition to the war is coming mainly from Democrats and independents. "Fifty-seven percent of independents and nearly three-quarters of Democrats oppose the war. Seven in 10 Republicans support what the U.S. is doing in Afghanistan," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Democrats mildly opposed the war in April while independents and Republicans favored it. But opposition has grown 18 points among Democrats and 10 points among independents." Link
gchs_uk9 Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I think most Americans are tired of war in general, no matter where it is being fought.
Jim Schue Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 George Will had a pretty good column about just this subject; he's also ready for us to be done with it. (I read it in yesterday's C-J)
Hatz Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I wonder how many of those polled have equated Iraq and Afghanistan as the same place? The American public (some of them) are that dumb. If they don't know US geography there is a good chance they don't know the geography there either.
rockmom Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I'm an independent, and I was and still am for military action in Afghanistan. THAT's where we need to be, and where we need to make headway. I'm ready for it to be over, but it's going to be a long time, not anytime soon.

Find their caves, drop mustard gas in there and seal the openings. Works pretty well in my book.

PepRock01 Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Too many people would say we're inhumane. Not sure if you have ever followed anything I have ever posted regarding conflicts and their conduct in here but that means nothing to me. Give them a chance to surrender and be treated like human beings. Maybe even a handful of chances, but if they insist on continuing then gas them. Maybe when some realize what happened they will be more inclined to take the lenient route.

When you factor in that the average age range of these idiots is somewhere around 15-24 I don't think anything we do will change their way of thinking, they're either brainwashed, rebelling, or too afraid of what their "brothers" may do to them if they do change their ways. I'm all for gassing them, but I'm just saying it wouldn't happen.

sportsfan41 Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 If there aren't any of them left...does their "way of thinking" really matter? Unless you're proposing the use of nuclear weapons, there will ALWAYS be more of them left. But I wonder how well opium grows in a nuclear fallout zone.
Jim Schue Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I've been saying it for years: If there ever was a place that begged to have the G-Bomb dropped on it, it's Afghanistan. Since you hard-core right-wingers don't give a rat's patootie what the rest of the world thinks about the US, surely you can get behind my idea of out-crazying the crazies, right?

As long as it is cost-effective I am all for it.

If the price of heroin skyrockets then we will see an increase of crime by heroin-starved-junkies here at home (or so I've been told).
