North Laurel is really on a roll beating 2 quality teams back to back to open the season, ... both in dramatic fashion. The Jags are starting to believe they are a good team.

 

South Laurel struggled last week missing 5 starters, but got most of them back tonight and just wore down Williamsburg for a stunning comeback win (trailed 26-6, came back and won 32-26). South Laurel's running attack is really starting to click, ... especially down the stretch.

 

2 first year coaches, ... both with Rockcastle backgrounds. This should really be a dandy!!!

I think that you can throw alot of stuff out of the window in this one. But I will have to go with NL in this one. They have had 2 great wins and they will be 3-0 after next weeks game.

They do have 2 great wins, but you are right, these games often surprise.

 

With both teams running the ball so much, this could be one of the shorter NL vs SL games in quite some time. I think North wins, but MUCH closer than people think.

I think NL gets a very solid win this week.

It appears that for the first time this season, .. NL will be the favorite. They have relished the underdog role and have to wonder how they will respond to being favored. I believe that Coach Larkey and his staff will keep the players egos in check to continue to get their focus and attention soley on South Laurel. IF North doesn't maintain the same focus and intensity this friday, ... 'they're gonna get their feelings hurt.' (I used this quote from Coach Mark Scenters I have heard him use before).

 

I think I am seeing more hard hitting from South this year and this will be a much better ball game then most are predicting. It is North v South and both teams should be very keyed up.

This game is a big trap for North Laurel. After 2 highly touted opponents, South comes in 1-1 and many are thinking blowout.

 

I think this is very dangerous for North for a few reasons.

 

1. South only trailed LCC 7-6 towards the end of the 2nd quarter and in a few bad plays, were down 2-3 TDs in a hurry. They were in that game. And LCC is very good.

2. In the LCC game, they only had 1 starting lineman (the center, Baker). They were moving backs to the line to block in a power running game and it didn't work.

3. South got most of their lineman back and against Williamsburg and their big strong line just wore down the Jackets and in the 4th quarter got back in the game via the power running game.

4. Vaughn is hitting the hole very quickly right now and had something like 5 TDs on Saturday. He is very dangerous. Honestly, he looked faster than any back I have seen the past few weeks, and that includes PC, NL and KC.

5. Quinn is a very fast fullback and also very dangerous

6. South is still adjusting to a power running game and you can see it starting to click.

7. North is in danger of a letdown after 2 emotionally charged, come from behind wins in the 4th quarter against ranked opponents.

8. The new DC at South Laurel is starting to get his kids on the same page and they are hitting MUCH harder than last year's team.

9. JD Wright (SL QB) has some HUGE shoes to fill, but given how the running game is starting to click, you can see his confidence start to grow. He has some real potential, .. just throws a little bit sidearmed. But he has good footwork and can scramble out of trouble pretty well.

 

Many are down on South right now, but I am telling you that this is a very dangerous game for the Jaguars and North better have the same focus and intensity they have had the past 2 weeks or they could get their feelings hurt quickly. And this is a crosstown rivalry that neither team wants to lose. You can bet that Coach Welch will have his kids fired up and ready to go as he does not want to lose to North Laurel, a team he used to coach and a school where he used to teach. Pride is on the line here with both these programs and their new head coaches.
