Mr.Network Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Final from the Cumberland Valley Bowl. South Laurel trailed 26-6 at one point but posted 26 unanswered points to get the win. Tyler Vaughn with 5 touchdowns for the Cardinals.
MountainThunder Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 HUGE win for the Cards. They didn't quit and fought back hard for this win. They needed this win for a nice boost of confidence before they head across town to face North Laurel next week.
MountainThunder Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 The Cardinals are running the ball, and with most of their O line back, it appears that they really have started to click on the ground. Sounds strange to see South running the ball, .. but they most certainly are. Vaughn and Miller are 2 very good backs and will just get better as the line grows more accustomed to run blocking. Funny thing. Sitting with Chris Larkey and some of his assistants. Larkey says' with the score 26-12 and South trailing' "South Laurel will come back and win this game. All they have to do is go back to the run." Low and behold, they do that very thing. He believes this is a very underrated South Laurel team who is starting to learn how to run the ball, and they are just going to get better and better at it.

3wishes Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Wow! When did Williamsburg score their last TD? 12 seconds before the half on a 40 yard pass that had blown coverage all over it. South Laurel is a pretty good team, very under-rated indeed.

Have I been away so long that the Merida kid is no longer there -- shouldn't he be a senior now? Or did he do one of those wild and crazy SEKy transfers that some allege only happens from a public school into a private school?

Or did he do one of those wild and crazy SEKy transfers that some allege only happens from a public school into a private school? Merida is a senior, ... at Knox Central. He transferred a few years ago from South Laurel. It was a legit move. He played there last year, but I think was hurt for part of the season and is their primary back.

N will beat them by 4-5 TD'S I don't think North beats them by that much. That game will be much closer than many on here will predict. Too much emotion for this game and both teams will be keyed up. With both teams running the ball a very high percentage of the time, this could be the fastest NL v SL game in quite some time. They key for South is to slow down Wardrup, ... for North is to slow down Vaughn.

HT721 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Williamsburg laid down in this one, it was pathetic. I give South all the credit for taking advantage but Williamsburg is the more talented team this year, they just laid down when they got up 20 points.

Bubba Wilson Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 True, Harlan will give the Jackets all they want. Too many players injured for the Jackets this season.
DADDY CAT Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 We over at LC can sympathize with the Jackets. Once the injury bug hits small teams hard, you just try to tread water one week at a time. I think SL adjusted to W'burg in the 2nd half and SL quit making mistakes. Jackets were in a position to punch one in and tie or win, but the intentional grounding really hurt them. I have to disagree with some. If SL had this much trouble getting by a really banged up, but dangerous, 1A school, a healthy, confident rival could be WAY too much to handle next week. JMO.
