Maybe they ran out of gas......I'm guessing that Williamsburg does not play many players.

 

I would tend to have thought that if I hadn't watched the game but Wburg had a huge fumble after a gain of about 20 yards up 2 tds and after that they just quit.

I don't think they quit. I think that South's running attack (still seems strange to say that), wore them down in the 4th quarter. The Cardinals made a mistake (IMHO), when they started trying to throw the ball more often when the Jackets had a hard time stopping their running game for most of the contest. When SL went back to the run, they were able to wear down the defense, ... and many of those Jackets players do go both ways. It affected their offensive production at that point.

 

I was there and truly don't think that W'burg quit. SL just never gave up and fought back hard.

I can't believe anyone would think they laid down. Easy to say from the stands, but Williamsburg plays about 17 players, most going both ways, and was really beat up by injuries. I actually saw several kids playing their butts off and their hearts out. Saying they quit is ridiculous.

:thumb::thumb: One thing can ALWAYS be said about a Jerry Herron coached team...they WILL NOT quit. They will always fight opponents to the end of the game even if they are on the short end of a blowout!!! You are right Volfan...whoever said that is out of line.

They didn't quit. They were just wore down by the 4th quarter. But they most certainly didn't quit.

I didn't count but looking at the sideline it looked to be about 25 to 30 but I'm sure someone on here watches them more and knows the exact number.

That was not my quote. South Laurel earned that win. I really think their numbers made a big difference. They were able to substitute more than Williamsburg and it caught the Jackets in the 4th quarter. I am sure some kids were tired.

 

On a positive note, I was impressed with Moses. But by the 4th quarter South was able to get even more pressure on him. That sack towards the end was huge. The size/strength of their O line was the difference down the stretch.

I thought it looked like they had just south of 30 kids. I respect Williamsburg for stepping up and playing a 5A school. And next year, they will play North Laurel in the CVB, another 5A school.
