It's quite a different offensive scheme and I don't believe it helps for team chemistry and flow. It looks like it hindered LexCath's performance tonight. Hopefully we can settle on one guy and get a solid game plan in effect before too long.

It's an interesting concept that the coaching staff are using. They are rotating John Sam Steele and Nic Ward at the Qb position. Both are Sr's. It can work out really well if the coaching staff can work to their advantages. John Steele is a more true pocket passer with a little more height on War, but Ward is a balanced and seasoned QB. If worked out the right way this concept should work.

BTW speaking of injuries this CCH team REALLY misses WR Michael Robinson. The passing game would be so much better with arguably the top wide out in NKY. A rookie qb could certainly use him.

Ward has the experience, but Steele can play as well. You are right. If we can work it the right way, it could be effective. Just working out the kinks right now.

Watched this game on TV... Greg Raglin played awesome... Also noticed Jared Lorenzen was one of the announcers at WYMT, he wasn't bad....

I don't believe I've even seen a real game where one team used 3 different qb's in the 1st qtr like LC did tonight.

I think iit was a first for me too....

Yes Jared did the game. He was giving me texts when he could from the LexCath/CovCath game and I was giving him updates from Ft Thomas. Jared does a really good job and I could see a future in Broadcasting. He will be doing the radio next Sat at Arnies on the Levee in Newport before and after the Ky/Miami game.:thumb:

I was impressed with Lex Cath's speed on both sides of the ball. The running back (#30) made some cuts that were pretty amazing. Special teams for Lex Cath also outplayed Cov Cath special teams which helped tremendously in field position, and set up the safety at the beginning of the game.

Cov Cath running game looked good early, but then fizzled. This passing game has to get on track. There are open receivers but Erpenbeck is either missing them or is too quick to take off running, IMO. The very catchable dropped passes by Connelly also hurt, especially the one where he had his guy beat deep.

Overall excellent effort by the Colonels and you will continue to see improvement each week. It would have been nice to schedule like college basketball and put a few 'cupcakes' on the schedule this year to get things going.

.

No question they were drops. However, the young man didn't then let it snowball. He came back and made some nice catches. I would have loved to see him on a fade to the EZ on the last play before the FG attempt.

Agreed. I liked the fact that they came right back to him to 'get him back on the horse' and he responded. I was afraid he was going to be looking for Ryle's safety all year after the hit he took last week on the deep route.

From the Herald-Leader:

Raglin helps LexCath beat CovCath

Few complaints from Coach Bill Letton after his Lexington Catholic Knights won the second game of their Republic Bank Bluegrass Bowl.

Greg Raglin ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns as the Knights edged Covington Catholic 23-17 Saturday night.

"Good experience, the first two weeks," Letton said. "We've had to come from behind; we've had to play from ahead. Good stuff in preparation for what we hope is a long playoff run."

Thanks. I hate to see any player be out at all.

Me neither- like CCH's best player out for year most probably.

I forgot about this but I would like to bring it up.

I was standing behind the CovCath bench watching the game all night long and was impressed with how the coaches were dealing with the kids.

One example was the PK who on one of the kickoff miss hit the ball (I believe). Now it was a huge mistake, and it gave LexCath some great field position, but as the young man came off the field with his head down (he obviously knew he had made a mistake) Coach Wirth montioned the young man over to him. What impressed me was the Coach put his arm around him and talked to him. He didn't yell or scream but they just talked and when Coach was done, he just tapped him on the top of his helmet. Note: It wasn't a slap, or even a hard tap, it was just a tap to say, next time think!

Another moment in the game made me realize how much Coach Wirth understand the game and is on the ball and I for one won't ever question him.

CovCath is down nine points and gets the ball (last "O" series) at around mid-field (I think) and I notice the CovCath PK and another kid goofing off kicking the ball around on the ground. Now I mentioned it to another person standing next to me and told him why in the heck are these kids screwing around and or at least why isn't the PK not practing? I was upset, but after a first down or two then it's third down, I though well if we don't make the first down, then kick a FG and then try an on side kick, and then it hit me like a ton of bricks falling on my head! That is exactly what the young man was doing in front of me, he was practicing his on side kicks!

Having Coach Wirth thinking that far ahead in this game with all the things going on the field, impressed the heck out of me.

It impressed me so much that I thought I should pass it on.

Thanks TOG. Looks like CovCath has their man! Question! How does Coach Ray look like? Is he enjoying it again?

From what I understand, he is loving life and enjoying himself immensely!

It's nice to see The Legendary Coach of CovCath on the sidelines again!
