August 28, 200917 yr I'd almost guarantee that there is something brewing because Vick didn't seem to far lost in the game and with a few more weeks, could be a decent QB. :thumb: Like I said in my post, he was a franchise QB (and highest paid) a couple of seasons ago. He hasn't had to sit because of injuries, he has just had to sit. Players come back all the time after a season, season and a half, etc. after devastating career threatning injuries and still produce. Vick has no such injury, he just couldn't play football. Its not unfathomable to think that once he gets reps, practice, etc. that the rust will start to come off and we will start to see him become similar to what he used to be. The type of talent he had (has) just doesn't disapear. In fact, I would go on to boldly say that in the right situation Vick could possibly play better than he has ever played. For one he is fresh, and has not been beat up by the rigors of being an NFL starter for two years. Secondly, and most importantly it looks like he is trying to find a work ethic that he has NEVER had. Even in his 60 minutes interview he goes on to discuss how it makes him ashamed that he was always last one there, first one to leave. He also talked about how he wouldn't listen, just thought he knew it all, and basically just played on just his talent alone without having to put in the work required to be a productive NFL QB. If you can add a driven work ethic to the talent he once had, then I think Vick can come back and be the ultimate story of redemption. I just don't think that place is in Phili. Would love to see him go somewhere where he can be the starter, and somewhere to where he can say it is his team again.
August 28, 200917 yr There won't be much of a QB controversy when they announce how many games Vick still has to sit out.
August 28, 200917 yr You guys are all missing the point here. McNabb has an injury history. The Vick pickup was a great one from the Eagles. He gives them about as dynamic and experienced #2 as you can get (w/ the exception of Garcia). McNabb will get hurt by week 10 and Vick will lead the team to a couple of wins. THEN there will be a controversy.
August 28, 200917 yr There won't be much of a QB controversy when they announce how many games Vick still has to sit out. I don't believe that he has to sit any out. He's on conditional release, but that didn't include missing any games, if I remember correctly.
August 28, 200917 yr One thing I haven't touched on because I've been too busy taking up for Vick is this. Of course the offense is going to look a little out of sync running the new packages with Vick because they haven't got to practice them much yet. I mean Vicks only been on the field for a little over two weeks now, and most of his work has been to get him back in shape and to take snaps from the tru QB position. There just hasn't been enough time yet to perfect the new Vick package in practice, they just wanted to see what it would look like given it was a pre-season game against an actual NFL team. Once they start working this stuff, and once it starts clicking in practice, I doubt it takes too much rhythm out of the offense, instead it just gives it a whole new element.
August 28, 200917 yr Maybe you are correct, but I still think we are trying to read too much in to a few snippets from the sidelines. Knowing the microscope they were under and Donovan's media consciousness, I have a hard time believing McNabb was being confrontational. It's too early for a controversy. Like MJ mentioned, we don't know if and how long Vick will be suspended. McNabb is their guy...he stayed healthy and he was great last season. But, he's had some rocky moments in Philly...down the road, if he struggles some or gets injured, and Vick looks good when he's on the field, I wouldn't be surprised if the fans and media in Philly started calling for Vick. Nothing the fans in Philly do would surprise me. No doubt ESPN will start to hint at the possibility that Vick could "jumpstart" the team and get them playing better. McNabb and Philly has been one of the strangest relationships in sports...he's been a very, very good QB almost since he was drafted, yet he's been benched, been trashed by the fans, they've hinted at moving on without him, looked for their QB of the future, etc...yet, he's still there and when healthy, he's still better than the majority of QB's in the league. Weird.

Philly is eyeing a Super Bowl. Any troubles early are expected, but they'll get lined out. If they're still struggling by Week 10-12, then it could be a problem.
August 28, 200917 yr Author I noticed after watching the highlights on ESPN this morning that it looked as if McNabb was mouthing off to Vick on the sidelines as he was walking away, Vick just stood there looking at him. I'd almost guarantee that there is something brewing because Vick didn't seem to far lost in the game and with a few more weeks, could be a decent QB. They definitely had an exchange on the sidelines and I would guarantee that all is not well in the lockerroom.
August 28, 200917 yr I don't believe that he has to sit any out. He's on conditional release, but that didn't include missing any games, if I remember correctly. He is on a conditional reinstatement. He can participate in practice, and the final two pre-season games. That is why he didn't get to play in their last pre-season game. Not because they didn't think he was ready yet, but because he wasn't allowed to. He is also suspended indefinitly from regualr season play until Rog gives it the go ahead. He is expected to give this go ahead no later than week 6, which means could be week one, could be week six, or anywhere else in between.

If they're still struggling by Week 10-12, then it could be a problem. BINGO. Phili made the move to give itself a lot of options. It's like playing poker and you have a wildcard and everyone else doesn't. I still would have loved [just from being a Vick fan/Cowboys fan (= not an Eagle fan) ] to see him go to another team to where he would have an immediate chance to be the starter. But the role he will serve in Phili is to allow them a lot of flexibility in what they are going to be able to do this season. Instead of worrying about McNabb going down, and their season going down with him, they now have arguably the best backup in the leage (assuming he gets the rust off, which looks to be the case). You can rgue that statement all you want, but if anyone thinks Vick was a backup two years ago then they are insane. The highest paid player in the league is not a backup. So what Phili has is a guy that would still be able to win some games if McNabb's down, and a guy who was the mosy dynamic athlete in the sport who can factor into their offense with McNabb.
August 28, 200917 yr What will make it even more of a contoversy is that Vick actually played well. 4 short passes and one yard rushing is "played well?" Is that what they call grading on a curve?
August 28, 200917 yr I don't believe that he has to sit any out. He's on conditional release, but that didn't include missing any games, if I remember correctly. His conditional reinstatement only entitled him to practice and participate in 2 preseason games. He has to apply for full reinstatement and he could sit out between 0-6 games.
August 28, 200917 yr 4 short passes and one yard rushing is "played well?" Is that what they call grading on a curve? More than just stats. Vick didn't look like he had been out of the league for 2 years. Most QB's could not come back and pick up on the pace of the game that quick. He adjusted well against the starters. Expect better stats in the next game.

When 3 of your 4 passes were completed behind the LOS you've not proven anything other than a propensity to be accurate from 5 yards.
