August 30, 200917 yr Question for all the Conservatives: Doesn't God teach us that we should help the poor and unfortunate? He most certainly does, although I can't recall where He teaches us to help the lazy and vagrant over and over and over. Can you?
August 30, 200917 yr Question for all the Conservatives: Doesn't God teach us that we should help the poor and unfortunate?Yeah, and as you can see it's been proven that they do just that. So, I'm not really sure what you're driving at.
August 30, 200917 yr I don't think you get it. First you say Republicans teach people how to do things, and give them opportunity to do on their own. Now you're saying, Republicans give everything to the poor. Which one is it? Why are we even having this argument then? For that matter, where do Republicans get all this money to keep for themselves, and at the same time, give it all to the poor. Now that is an impressive talent. Both. BTW, I never said Republicans give everything to the poor. Please read my post with greater care next time. As to your last sentence, I agree.
August 30, 200917 yr First, I agree with the premise that you teach a man to fish, he feeds himself forever, and give him a fish, and he eats for only a day. I reject the partisan spin that was applied to such a wise saying. As to who contributes more, I think the that everyone gets too hung up on who contributes the most money. And the truer indicator of ANYONE'S generosity is in the time they give. Again, a non-partisan statement. It's easy to give money, AND you get a tax break. Not so easy to carve out time, and donate your talents or hard work. Just my 2 cents. Apparently not.
August 30, 200917 yr Just a thought... Is it illogical to believe that many of the policies promoted in favor of the poor- those that are based on taxation of the "wealthy" in order to redistribute wealth- can be BAD for the poor? My stance is that high taxation hinders economic growth, and economic growth raises the standard of living for ALL. My support of pro-growth policies stems from a belief that they are the only way to minimize poverty.
August 31, 200917 yr Question for all the Conservatives: Doesn't God teach us that we should help the poor and unfortunate? I've never gotten real caught up in what party you belong too but here is my thought on that. Yes we should help the poor however we have gotten to the point that we are enabling the poor as a society. Our welfare/disability system is being absued something awful every day. I've helped a lot of people get on their feet and am helping somebody right now however I cringe when I see people living off the money I have worked hard for because they are flat out too lazy to go support themselves. There is no denying that the system is flawed really bad. There needs to be something in place for those that truly need it but something has to change for those that don't. To me we have two options. 1. Pretend there is nothing wrong and continue what we are doing or 2. Start working on coming up with a better system with strict penalties for those that abuse it!
August 31, 200917 yr I sometimes pray for the Lord to take some of the bitterness I catch myself having out of my heart. I get fired up when I work hard to put "fish" on the table for my kids and some lazy rear sits on his hands all day while taking away money I worked hard for to help my kids all because that person is too lazy to work! There are hard working people that want jobs but are struggling in this economy. That's not what I'm talking about. I KNOW people I went to school with that are abusing the system and that cycle keeps getting worse and worse in our area!
August 31, 200917 yr Both. BTW, I never said Republicans give everything to the poor. Please read my post with greater care next time. As to your last sentence, I agree. Then why do people complain that Democrats give everything to the poor? Next time, I'll have you to back me up that it's those scheming Republicans who are masquerading as Democrats giving it all away to the poor. I never would have thought that.

Giving money to charity via donation is quite different than having it taken from you via higher taxes.

August 31, 200917 yr Giving money to charity via donation is quite different than having it taken from you via higher taxes. Giving money to charity, certainly did a lot to help the economy under Bush's two terms. Can you say, Recession? Oh, but wait, that was the Democrats fault to. I can't help but give a little giggle.
