Prestonsburg 28 Belfry 21

Featured Replies

Pburg lost a ton of talent from last year. You have to tip your hat to the kids and staff there. They have really nice team speed and really fly to the ball on defense. Burchette is one of the more underatted QB's in the state. He is a nice player!

Thanks, stick... :thumb:

It was nice to see LC take a good first step, too. Football nights should be nice and lively again in Louisa.

Coach Haywood just doesn't have the studs this season. They will compete, but Belfry could lose 5 or 6 games this year.

Congrats Prestonsburg.

I'll eat crow, must have been a great game.

It's not bad if you deep fry it. Bon appetite.

Belfry will be alright. Lot of potential for improvement. They will get the procedure penalties out of their system. Good luck the rest of the way.

I hope P-burg doesn't let this win go to their head, Belfry is way down compared to the last 3 seasons, but P-burg still has the ability to win out in their region if they take it one game at a time and learn from their mistakes... but most important of all is to stay healthy and quit getting kids ejected from games. GOOD luck to both teams for the rest of the season and remember, good sportsmanship not only reflects on you and your coach, but also on your family.

Congrats Prestonsburg.

If that is the case it probably has been a long time with that many losses.

Were you there, my friend ?? If so, wish I'd run into you !!

No, I didn't make it. I had a friend there calling me with updates, I'm sure I will run into this year.

It sounds like Coach Derossett get his team fired up, congrats to P-burg on a great win. Coach Derossett has to be one of the best coachs in the state.

It's funny...

I was thinking just about the opposite. Belfry impressed me as a team that possibly had the thoughts, "we know we're better than P-burg" or "this one's in the bag" in the back of its mind before kickoff. Not intended as a criticism, mind you, because it would be easy to do with the streak the Pirates had (it's good to put that in the past tense, btw).

This was something Prestonsburg needed - a dose of confidence in what they're doing. The Blackcats are a young team and new players need that. If it DID "go to their head", I'm sure the Breathitt Co. team they play soon will show them the problem in that. :sssh:

For Belfry's sake, this "wake up call" might remind the team that wins don't come based on previous years' performance. They must be earned each and every year. Some of Coach Haywood's best teams have emerged from early season losses.

Neither can afford to have starters ejected. The players involved must learn control of his temper/frustration. Rest assured, neither Coach Haywood nor Coach Derossett will miss the opportunity to correct those sorts of errors.

Confidence is a very good thing for a young team it could take them a long way this season, don't you agree oneijoe.

It's easy enough to guess what might have happened to the team's psyche if they'd taken a drubbing like many had predicted. If that's true, then the opposite must also hold true.

Frankly, I think both teams will be better directly as a result of Friday's outcome.

I have to disagree with you my friend..

I don't think that the Belfry players had those kind of thoughts going into this game. I think that winning, as much as they are used to, built up their confidence a little, but you have to stop and think too, how hard and unsettling it had to be for such a young team as Belfry is right now, to start the season with such a big rivalry, knowing that P-burg, (and just about everyone else) wants to beat the Pirates more than any other team.

I mean, Belfry lost more seniors that started in key positions last year than they had lost in several seasons. That has to knock the cockiness level down a peg or 2.

For some reason, I didn't feel the intensity in this game between the two teams that is normally there.

Congratulations to the Blackcats on their win.

I know that Coach Haywood will have a lot of the errors corrected and the Pirates will improve with each and every game. With age comes wisdom and that is what this young group of Pirates will need (along with patience and support from the Pirate Nation)

Belfry is notorious for starting slow...that doesn't always result in losses. Sometimes it's just closer than expected victories. Regardless, they'll be a different team by season's end. Solid win for the Blackcats though. Any win against Belfry is a good one.
