Saying because someone owns a gun, they are not civil is as stupid as saying because someone is black, they must be a drug dealer. Both statements are simple minded and show a bias toward a particular group. If you don't like guns, that's fine. It's your right to not like them. What is not civil is to insult a huge number of folks just because they don't think like you do. It has been my experience that the bulk of legal gun owners are some of the most responsible people in society.

There's an old saying in Mexico, or maybe Italy, "When a man with a .45 meets a man with a rifle, the man with the .45 is a dead man." Of course, the man with no name proved that saying to be wrong.

I've said it numerous times on here, and I'll say it again.....If someone breaks into my house, I'm shooting first and asking questions later. I don't care if they're armed or not.

 

And there is no way you can convince me a dog is going to have the same impact on a criminal that a bullet in the chest will.

A gun could also get you in trouble, if somehow you get attacked and the gun gets taken away. The intruder might not have had a weapon before, but in that case they would now.

This goes back to a previous post that you don't pull the gun if you aren't prepared to shoot. I would agree with you !00% that you dont pull the gun if you arent prepared to shoot. A gun is a terrible thing to use as intimadation, it will get you killed. If you know the consequences and are willing to use it, it is very valuable.

I cant fault someone reaching for the gun to be prepared for a possible violent confrontation. It is when the gun is pulled, that the situation is serious to all.

In HS I had a gun pulled on me SEVERAL times.........when I went to my dad and grand-dad they told me I could keep a gun but if I pulled it I'd better be ready to shoot, or I'd get killed.......I didnt carry a gun.

Thing is, they always carry/carried a gun and now I do too but that conversation at that age showed me I wasn't ready at that point.
