I agree. Ryle seems to do well in post-season play because of their tough schedule during the regular season.

Ok...they do good, they don't do bad? To me that is the same as saying they do well. I never said they are amazing and the reason they win so many games in the post season and down state is because of their tough schedule. I think they make a legit presence in the post season due to the teams they play in the regular season. It doesn't prepare you for when it really matters if you play cupcake teams that you walk on.

 

I also never praised Roesel lol, I just am saying they do well. Don't read too much into those two words...they can do better.

When I made my comments earlier in the thread I was talking about the last few years and was attempting to draw a correlation between having a fairly young team last year, their tough schedule, and winning 9 of their last 11 games plus the 33rd District title, and in the end a tough 1 run loss to a pretty good NCC team in the regional. I wasn't making any general comments about Roesel's abilities just the philosophy, which to some degree seems to make sense.

What I find interesting in this thread is the discussion of kids potentially coming out for baseball this year that have not played in a few years due to football. Yet, there are several on here who want to contend that Dale does not discourage kids from playing sports other than football. If Brandon Roller still has a fondness for the game as quoted earlier, why has he not played the past few years? Please do not use the spring break excuse because that is getting old.

Unfortunately, that will happen again this year with this group. They are not going to give up their Senior spring break after doing it for all these years.

 

Maybe eventually the day will come when "highschool" kids realize that they should have stayed home and played a sport that they love. All you have to do is ask the parents of a lot of these players what they wished they should have done or if they regret not going on spring break and that will tell the tale.

I've never understood the spring break ordeal at Highlands. I can't imagine anyone ever leaving town over Christmas break & missing a football game or basketball game.

I know Jeremy is working very hard on this. He has a few people that he really wants they just have to commit.. There is definately some young talent right now at the middle school level..:thumb:

Like to see them tap into a HHS baseball alum or two. There are some pretty good guys in town, that would be great selections ie; Dave Simons, Freddy Terry, and/or Tony Daugherty. Sure there are others.

Yeah they beef up the schedule but they still better worry about Bellevue and Beechwood.

I know one pitcher that's coming back after a few years away because of football. He's "not" a household name, but was the best pitcher on the JV squad as a Freshman.
