August 12, 200917 yr That's the same thing that happened in the Confederations Cup. The South American ref called a bunch of tick-tack crap the two games he refed, including the red on Bradley. They have it out for the US it seems, and I've never been one to blame refs for losses. Is there perhaps a sense of "the U.S. hasn't earned good calls" around the soccer globe? Just curious. Perhaps in the way we play on in basketball at the Olympics, but other teams are called for a foul? It's silly, but it might be the case.

August 13, 200917 yr I think it was a pathetic display by the Mexican fans/supporters today. First, they threw rocks at the U.S. bus and damaged it on the way to the game. Then, they throw stuff on the field during the game and risk injury to players. The Mexican team is a pathetic display of sportsmanship. They flop all over the field from imaginary contact. They try to lift an injured American player up as if he's faking an injury. They throw countless cheapshots and late tackles (that never result in a card) and then they continually grab the ball and try to run with it to delay the game. The officials are an even more impressive piece of work. It's as if the officials were slid thousands of dollars under the table or something. It is that way in every Mexican game, particularly at home. I'm not sure what is going on there, but the U.S team was hosed in this one. So, basically, the Americans played their guts out but were unable to overcome the other team, the officials, the 100,000+ fans, the 7,200' altitude, the smog and all the disruptions. I'm still proud of how they played though.
August 13, 200917 yr Wireman...as much as I hate what went on today all I see in your post is excuses. They know that's how its going to be going in and should have been prepared for that atmosphere (and I believe they probably did). We just need to face it...we lost.

I'm not making excuses, I'm just stating the obvious - there are reasons why Mexico is 62-1-4 in at home.

You know I have to agree with Wireman but not about the crowd or smog, but the ref! Did you see the cup throwing incident? I mean I have never seen police in full riot gear no less, (and I have been to USA vs Mexico and World Cup Matches before) come to the rescue of a player in a game played in the USA! Sad, sad indeed and FIFA should look into that (the cups) and rocks being thrown at the USA bus!

I mean the altitude, smog and fans are a given, but it's just wrong to put players in danger like that. Donovan was getting pelted on that last corner kick.
August 13, 200917 yr Of course, Honduras is getting ready to defeat Costa Rica (in CR) and flip the entire table upside down. If this holds, it will be: 1) Honduras 2) Costa Rica 3) USA 4) Mexico 5) El Savador 6) Trinidad and Tobago Top 3 qualify automatically, 4th place plays South America's 5th place for spot
August 13, 200917 yr When does USA play their next qualifying match? They have two in early September. Both should be wins, but I can't remember who they're against.
August 13, 200917 yr They have two in early September. Both should be wins, but I can't remember who they're against. Remaining Qualifying Schedule Sept. 5 : El Salvador at US Sept. 9 : US at Trinidad and Tobago Oct. 10 : US at Honduras Oct. 14 : Costa Rica at US At least two of those should be wins, which will be enough to get us in the top three. I think we should win three of the four.
August 13, 200917 yr Does the spot you qualify in have any bearing on who's in your World Cup group? Not really. It has to do with your past performances in the World Cups and your FIFA worldwide ranking. The only other "sport" that has the same homer disparity in officiating is professional wrestling. As a bonus the acting is about the same in both sports--the flops in soccer are nauseating. Until that garbage gets cleaned up or they give the players chairs to hit each other over their heads with soccer isn't going to draw more viewers. At least in wrestling pretty much everyone knows its rigged. :thumb:
