Club Soccer is a joke....in fact most Soccer people are too. They will tell kids at 11 and 12 years old that they HAVE to play soccer year round if they want any shot at being a big college player. I have seen middle school kids in tears because soccer coaches told them that and made them choose between soccer and basketball. They generally have no respect for school sports (mainly b/c school soccer is joke) and expect their kids to skip school sports activities for their club teams.

 

And you can say the same thing for the AAU basketball, summer baseball, club swimming, or Club Volley Ball coaches, so it isn't just the soccer folks.

 

BTW the rest of the world totally disagrees with you about the football (soccer) is a joke comment!

Bracken down the AA can be in Wilder (movie theater) in about 20 minutes.

Pendleton, from Butler it takes me about 25 minutes to Wilder (movie theater). Other parts of PC are 10 minutes from Independence.

Grant County via some backroads and it would be around some 30 minutes.

 

Now obviously if a person lived in PC on the Harrison County line, that would be different. Or in Bracken County on the Mason County line.

 

42 minutes from Grant Co. High. 20 minutes from my house in Ft. Thomas, and I'd say that estimate is generous. Traffic on 16 is brutal. Now it was shorter from Campbell Co. as it took you across the Visalia bridge. Brutal route though. You'd never make it even with a dusting of snow. On and on. Again this is a debate about nothing as this obviously is not occurring now, and there is no evidence to suggest it ever will. Why don't we get back to topic at hand. Why has NKY been so unsuccessful at State. And please since the creator of the thread has thrown in all of these counties as a possibilty, lets please include the Wildcats in the conversation, and no I don't mean Newport..

Calvary? They could draw from Grant, Boone, Kenton, Campbell, Pendleton and Bracken without too much of an issue at all.

 

St. Pat could draw from Mason, Fleming, Lewis, Bracken, Harrison, Nicholas, Robertson and OHIO without to much trouble at all.

Not everywhere. In Oldham County, HS soccer is darn close to a religion. Last year, all six teams (three boys' teams and three girls' teams) were ranked. And - during one six year stretch which saw them win five state crowns - the South Oldham girls' team was frequently ranked #1 in the nation.

 

Frankly, you hear of coaches of just about every sport who tell their players that they have to devote themselves to that particular sport year round "or else." You hear it in baseball, football, basketball, soccer, ad infinitum. It's a shame. Kids should be having fun and stretching their wings...

Soccer is indeed very bad for high school athletics. More kids get hurt playing soccer then any other sport (except for one). Soccer coaches, more than others, try to deter athletes from other sports.

Their are exceptions to every rule. On the whole parents/players seem to put much more stock in their "club" teams then their school teams.

My kids don't play soccer, so I guess - despite the popularity of the sport here in Oldham County - I'm not as exposed to the soccer crowd. You may well be right.

Calvary used to draw a lot of kids from the east side of Cincinnati and some from Indiana as well. When construction is finished on the 4 lanes (improved Taylor Mill Road) in two years, access would be greatly improved.

Very true - have seen that happen way to often. Give up bball in hs to focus on soccer and then they don't even make the varsity team.....crazy. I have also heard that parents like soccer better because more kids get to play at one time and if you ar going to have to pay money, you might as well play soccer because you have a better chance to play.

Because Cincinnati looks down its nose at NoKy much the same way, ironically enough, NoKy looks down its nose at the rest of Kentucky.

Some teams do play a game or two, but Ohio teams can only play 20 games a season, 4 less than Ky, so they have fewer openings after their league schedule is completed. There also is no publicity to be gained by playing a Cincy versus a Lex/Lou school in the state. A number of teams do have pre-season scrimmages againest Oh. teams.
