oldrambler Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 I realize that this series will not determine the division winner but imo this weekends four game series between that Yanks and BoSox will be a big one. Even after dropping all 8 games played so far to Boston the Yankees have a 2.5 game lead in the AL East. I have to think that the season series will end up far more even than an "o-fer" for the Yankees. I believe that NYY has been the best in baseball since early July, not sure on that but they would have to be close. Even with a 2.5 game lead going in I feel this series is more important to the Yankees bc of them dropping all games played between the two so far. What say you? ........................Yankess took the the first game tonight by a score of 13-6 giving them a 3.5 game lead in the division. I personally look for a 3-1 series win for New York. Beckett goes for Boston on Friday and imo that wll be their best chance at a win in this series.
stick1 Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 I dropped Joba from my fantasy team and he went lights out from there on out lol. Bos started hot and the Yanks didn't till ARod came back even though he hasn't been hitting with as much power as of late. Boston has a good bit of guys dinged up. I said it before and I'll say it again I think NY has a better team. Boston has a lot of pitchers when healthy though.
oldrambler Posted August 7, 2009 Author Posted August 7, 2009 ^ Joba pitched tonight, he wasn't "on" by any stretch imo but he got out of the jams that he got himself into and the Yankee bats got him and kept the big lead.
oldrambler Posted August 8, 2009 Author Posted August 8, 2009 Yankees took game two of the series in a 15 innining marathon by a 2-0 score. Boston pitchers along with New York were great wth both staffs pitching 15 innings of shutout baseball. A-Rod hit a walk off 2 run HR in the bottom of the 15th to give the Yanks the win and a 4.5 game lead in the AL East division over the BoSox.
LRCW Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 You don't see AJG bashing the Yankess much these days.
AverageJoesGym Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 You don't see AJG bashing the Yankess much these days. There's not been much to bash since before the All-Star break. Boston has been pretty dinged up and right now is in survival mode. I still like their chances in the post-season if they can get healthy and hold off the Rangers and Rays or catch the Yankees. I knew coming in that this was going to be a tough 9 game road trip. If they can salvage either one of the last 2 games of the Yankees series they can come out of it at at least 4-5--win both and they can end up with a winning road trip. I watched last night's game online and Beckett was outstanding but Burnett was unhittable. The umpire was giving both pitchers the outside part of the plate and they took advantage of it by backing the hitters up and then pounding the outside corners. If it wasn't for fatigue forcing the starters out of the game I think they'd still be playing at 0-0. There really weren't even any good swings against them.

I can agree with this, both pitchers were "light out"....flat out "nasty" stuff.
oldrambler Posted August 9, 2009 Author Posted August 9, 2009 Yankees take three straight over Boston with another shutout, 5-0. C.C. Sabathia took a no hitter into two outs in the 6th, he was untouchable before leaving the game on a pitch count reason in the 8th ( I believe). This win puts the Yankee lead to 5.5 games over Boston in the AL East. Yankees will be geting the brooms out tommorrow!
sweet16 Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I didn't know the Sox and Yanks were playing this weekend.
oldrambler Posted August 10, 2009 Author Posted August 10, 2009 Yankees 5 Red Sox 2 Boston took the lead 2-1 in the 8th inning after being shut out for 7 innings by A. Pettie. NYY came back with 4 runs in the bottom of the 8th led by back to back jacks by Damon and Teixera. A-Rod also went deep in this one to give the Yanks a 1-0 lead in the 7th inning. Before Boston scored in the 8th inning the BoSox were shutout for 31 consecutive innings by Yankee pitching. Rivera came in in the 9th to get the save and complete the 4 game sweep, the Yankees now hold a 6.5 game lead in the division and the Red Sox fell to a tie with Texas in the WC. GO Yankees ........................Pride, Passion and Pinstripes !!!!
born2reign Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 So now that the sweep is complete, what does this mean for the Yanks? 1. The Yanks have the best record in all of baseball. 2. The Yanks have widened the lead in the division to 6.5 games over Boston, the largest division lead of any team in the majors. 3. The Yanks have control of their own destiny over the next couple of months to secure homefield throughout the playoffs (thanks in part to the AL's win in the All Star game) which is great considering they have the best home record in baseball right now. Nothing is complete with two months left in the season, but we have begun to put some things together in the second half of the season.
DragonFire Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 It's like I said when the Red Sox had won 8 straight, the Yankees are more talented than the Red Sox. Back then they weren't playing that way, but they are now.
billwilliams70 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Go Yankees! http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9915860/Yanks-in-World-Series-form-with-sweep-of-BoSox# Later.
