September 23, 200917 yr My friends 15 year old son nailed a 12 pointer on Sat. night. They tracked it well into the night but lost the blood at 2am.Went back at first light, got back on their hands and knees and found him at 10:30am just as it started to rain! The deer had covered 3 farms, made a big circle and met his maker 50 yards from where he was shot! All the odds were against finding him.Dark blood, barely leaving a blood trail and heavy rain due at any time.Everybody was happy for the kid and glad to see a fine specimen not go to waste. It will look nice next to the massive 10 pointer he killed when he was 9.

Great story. Never stop looking and you will often time find your reward.
September 23, 200917 yr Oh, Isaac, you are truly a prophet. Let me break it down for you. Already told curiousgeorge because,,,,well,,,he was curious. I went up on the hill today around 3pm and moved my blind closer to a tree line but still out in the field and right next to a roll bale. I got it moved, got out of there and went and ran some more errands, got showered and as scent free as possible, and my 10 year old partner and I rode up the hill and walked the last 1/2 mile to the blind, careful to stay down wind of the blind the whole way. So, to make a short story long, we were in there from 5:30 to dark, and around 7:45 a spike popped out right where I had hoped, followed by a decent 8 pt as wide as his ears, and then the 9 popped out. He is a 130-135ish deer. Now, my problem was this,,,,I was in a hurry from the house, left the rangefinder and binoculars on my workbench. So needless to say when that dude was broadside and it was low shooting light to begin with, I guessed him at 30 and he was only 20. So, there's a lovely carbon arrow and Muzzy MX-4 at the bottom of the hollow, sans blood of course. So, I'm blaming Isaac!!!!!!!:irked::lol: Classic. I'm only laughing because I have similar stories. Only a bowhunter knows how humiliating it can be. That deer did not understand what that slap was. He will be back Doc. Stay with him. And, Oh yeah, step off them yards when in the open.
October 2, 200917 yr Well, no posts on this one in a while. Anyone dressing and dragging? Doc? I'm still at it but no shots yet. Getting into my favorite time to b-hunt now with the cooler weather. I just dread the upcoming gun seasons. :irked:
October 3, 200917 yr Nope. Been once since I airmailed the 9pt. Rained, nothing came to the field. Will be hanging stands tomorrow after we go to the gun range and make sure the midget's weapons and our muzzleloaders are on the mark. Still not gonna put the stick and string away. Good luck Isaac!!
October 5, 200917 yr I haven't been out yet but the big bruiser bucks in Ft Thomas are starting to show this years rack's off. I've seen some dandy's.
October 7, 200917 yr Well, no posts on this one in a while. Anyone dressing and dragging? Doc? I'm still at it but no shots yet. Getting into my favorite time to b-hunt now with the cooler weather. I just dread the upcoming gun seasons. :irked: I thought about what I said here about dreading gun seasons. Not entirely true. I bow and gun hunt as much as my marriage will allow. I love muzzleloading and feel that the 30.06 is not even fair. I must admit, without the gun there would be a lot of years with an empty freezer and none of that great jerky that everyone around here loves. I dis-like the blaze orange and jumping out of my skin when the fellow on the next ridge squeezes one off. :scared:
October 7, 200917 yr I don't think gun hunting is a real problem anymore.20 years ago weekend gun hunting sounded like a war zone, today I may only hear 5 to 7 shots a day. Most of todays young people seem to have less and less intrest in hunting and thats a shame. Some just want to set on their lazy double wide backsides and play computer games, thus the decline.I haven't been able to bow hunt for 12 years. This year I got a disability lisense to inable me to use a crossbow with a cranking device and I have that old ambush,up close and personal thrill again!IMO you get a kid out there with a gun, teach him or her good ethics and respect for the woods and you my have a future bow hunter.
October 9, 200917 yr Still at it? Hopefully the temperatures continue to drop! Yup. 3 out of 4 afternoons this week. Those crazy does have figured me out. I keep moving my blind to try and intercept them and they enter the field from a different area every time. :irked: The odds will eventually catch up with one of em'. How bout' you dawg? I know Doc can't stick one.
October 11, 200917 yr Missed one this afternoon. About 40 yards out. Saw nine on the night; all does and one spike.

I keep moving my blind to try and intercept them and they enter the field from a different area every time. :irked: The odds will eventually catch up with one of em'. How bout' you dawg? I know Doc can't stick one. Right now been leaving the does alone [for now :0)]. I had a real nice 10 pointer come thru on my but was a little nervous being chased by dogs. This past Sunday morning saw another nice buck and accordingly to the range finder stayed between 70 - 85 yds away eating acorns. Might be time to move the stand!:sssh:
October 13, 200917 yr I haven't been out yet but the big bruiser bucks in Ft Thomas are starting to show this years rack's off. I've seen some dandy's. Does this one look familiar? Eating the Acorns in my front yard. The date wasn't set on the Camera. This picture was a couple of weeks ago...
