Bow Season

Featured Replies

I saw Family Tradition and Sweeperboy at Lowes this morning getting some material to put the final touches on Family Traditions tree stand. Or shoud I say his condo...... After they get done there won't be many stands to rival this one.

I'm sure it will be a fine one!! But my $ is on my friend who works for the electric company here who set 4 poles and built a small two room house on his place. Shingles and all with a porch. Roughly 25 feet in the air. Spectacular. :bunny:

...and I wonder why my rates have gone up.:irked:

Shingles ehhhhh... Well Sweeps a Industrial Metal Building Supplier and doesn't need shingles with a metal roof.....:p It sounds like your friend has one heck of a palace though.....:thumb:

Question for you fellow arrow slingers: Do you all spray on the insect repellent during early season and say the heck with the smell? Or, loose a pint of blood while sitting there waving like a band director trying to shew those little man eaters? I never liked the idea of wearing the protective clothing. So, I usually spray. Might be why I don't have as many bow shots.

Good Lord, everything that could go wrong did. Cattle got out and demolished my hay blind, I rebuilt it. Sweating like a hog. Guy that lives next door who is never home,,,ever,,,comes back today of all days and decides he is gonna see how loud his stereo will play 80's hair band music. And on top of it all it's full moon and not a deer in sight during legal shooting light. Super.

Did see 24 jake and a halfs. That's 24 stupid 2year old turkeys this spring. All is well.:thumb:

How'd you do?

I like 80's hairband music.

Yeah, and we both had hair when we listened to that junk.

Well guys, full moons, fantasy football drafts, and rain didn't keep me away. Saturday morning I was turkey heaven, 2 monster gobblers, a few jakes, didn't see one deer, but did hear one blow at me! Got back in the woods today saw 2 nice 8 pointers in velvet, looked like twins, but only about 2 years old, should be nice in a couple years, also had a doe and fawn come in on me as well. Next Saturday cannot get here soon enough! Good luck everyone!

Yeah, and we both had hair when we listened to that junk.

Still have hair it has just moved to my back.

How'd you do?

The homemade stand was great. Sturdy, stable and safe. Did not see any deer from the stand over 3 mornings. Seen 4 does Monday evening while hunting a small field, but no opportunity for a shot..... Thinkin' about easing back up to the field this evening. :bunny:

Thanks Doc.... Are you going to be out in the open? If so, good luck with those open field bow shots. I've launched quite a few arrows just underneath the breadbasket. You might use a marker, such as a rock or stick to mark 20 & 30 yds while setting up your blind.:thumb:

Oh, Isaac, you are truly a prophet. Let me break it down for you. Already told curiousgeorge because,,,,well,,,he was curious.

I went up on the hill today around 3pm and moved my blind closer to a tree line but still out in the field and right next to a roll bale. I got it moved, got out of there and went and ran some more errands, got showered and as scent free as possible, and my 10 year old partner and I rode up the hill and walked the last 1/2 mile to the blind, careful to stay down wind of the blind the whole way. So, to make a short story long, we were in there from 5:30 to dark, and around 7:45 a spike popped out right where I had hoped, followed by a decent 8 pt as wide as his ears, and then the 9 popped out. He is a 130-135ish deer. Now, my problem was this,,,,I was in a hurry from the house, left the rangefinder and binoculars on my workbench. So needless to say when that dude was broadside and it was low shooting light to begin with, I guessed him at 30 and he was only 20. So, there's a lovely carbon arrow and Muzzy MX-4 at the bottom of the hollow, sans blood of course. So, I'm blaming Isaac!!!!!!!:irked::lol:

I made the same mistake out of a stand last week. Guessed him at about 25 to 30 and he was really about 20. Its amazing how different 20 yards looks when your 15 feet in the air.
