Muddawg Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Everybody getting ready for the upcoming deer season!?:ylsuper:
oldrambler Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 I for one really miss Bow Hunting. I am no longer able to due to this disease (M.S.) I am disabled with. Good luck to all going out, cherish each hunt that you have............... hunt safe, hunt ethical, shoot straight and keep your broadheads sharp. Remember that the taking of an animal is really secondary (at least it was to me) to the good times, memories made when hunting with family and good friends.
woodsrider Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Been so busy this summer with a new baby that the season has snuck up on me. I still have stands to hang and need to start shooting.
racer4life Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I bought a new Mathews Reezen bow a couple of days ago and have been shooting a couple hours each day. Also been doing some scouting, can't wait for opening day.
spindoc Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Scouted some last night, saw two monster bucks on the farm we hunt. One was a typical 10 in the 160 class, and saw another nontypical with 2 main beams on the left and a drop tine on the right. Gnarly looking thing. Hope no one decides to shoot them by the light of the moon.......or 1mil. candlepower.:irked:
YAKOFNORWEGIA Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 You know where I am from they teach you how to shoot in low light conditions.
oldrambler Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 You know where I am from they teach you how to shoot in low light conditions. That could, and should get a person in all kinds of touble. I know that you were probably joking and don't do this but imo there is way too much of that going on. Actually, any of it is too much. Poachers are not hunters or sportsmen :irked:. They (poachers/slob hunters) do nothing but give all hunters a bad name along with providing more fuel for the anti hunting groups along with some idiot politicians that want nothing less than to have all hunting banned.
Muddawg Posted August 24, 2009 Author Posted August 24, 2009 Oldrambler, I totally agree with both your posts!
1968isaac Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I built a 14' stand to my own specs in my basement. I worked on it off and on for about two weeks. Last Saturday, I drug that thing to my hunting spot and attached it to a tree. What I thought would be easy, carrying a 60lb stand to the woods, turned into the hardest labor I can remember. I drug this monster stand that weighed about 125lb straight up a ridge to my spot. I'm still sore from my efforts. At least I should feel safe! To beat it all, I have had a good climbing stand for years. But, the older I get the less comfortable/safe I feel in the climber.... Now looking forward to opening day. :ylsuper:
spindoc Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Good luck Isaac. Hope you whack one next Sat. morning!!! I'll be building a "hay blind" tomorrow right off the farm road where the bucks I've patterned come out each evening. I hope I'm in bow range. Good luck to all.

Are you going to be out in the open? If so, good luck with those open field bow shots. I've launched quite a few arrows just underneath the breadbasket. You might use a marker, such as a rock or stick to mark 20 & 30 yds while setting up your blind.:thumb:
Muddawg Posted August 29, 2009 Author Posted August 29, 2009 I'm so ready for next weekend! Feel like a kid on Christmas, my buddy spotted a nice buck in the area where I'm set up. Hope the big fella sticks around! Good luck all!

I plan on taking a minute before I settle in for my 5 hour tour (goin in around 3 and they haven't been showing themselves til around 8) and ranging a couple of spots, plus I have my rangefinder in hand when the moment of truth arrives (and boy I hope it does).
oldrambler Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I built a 14' stand to my own specs in my basement. I worked on it off and on for about two weeks. Now looking forward to opening day. :ylsuper: Although not a homemade stand I have packed a ladder stand in the woods and set them up before as well. That chore (carrying a ladder stand) is a heck of a job. I hope you put an arrow through ones boiler room, you deserve it after that work. :thumb: Again, good luck to all and stay safe.
THUNDERBIRDS Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I saw Family Tradition and Sweeperboy at Lowes this morning getting some material to put the final touches on Family Traditions tree stand. Or shoud I say his condo...... After they get done there won't be many stands to rival this one.
