2. Why Ginny hid the book. In the 7th book he knows where the tiara horcrux is because he hid the book under it, just don't understand how they are going to do that.

I agree with most of you who said this was the worst of the six. As a diehard Harry reader none of the movies are as good as the books, but thats to be expected. However, this was the worst book to movie translation of all of them.

 

However, I did have to wait til 1:15 in the morning to start the movie due to technical difficulties at the Levee, so I was already a little grumpy before the movie had even started.

1. Read Aiden Seamus's comment on that subject above. He described the reasoning behind it pretty well.

 

2. I thought the exact same thing during that scene. He has to find the tiara somehow.

I agree 1st bolded. To me this was the whole point of the book, and dumbledore dieing.

 

2nd bolded, I did not know there is going to be 2 more, how did you find this out and what are they going to be called.

 

I read the book a week before the movie came out and finished it about 5 minutes before I left the house to go watch it. I noticed all the little subtle differences due to that fact, and I have to say, they followed the book pretty well, they strayed a little, but all in all a pretty good job. A few things I didnt understand though.

 

I'm pretty sure it will just be Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

Ginny hid the book because they wanted that dang kiss scene. In the book, I believe they kiss after a Quidditch game or something, obviously they cut that, so they had to throw it in somewhere.

 

I would assume that in the last movie, Ginny will go with Harry to find the tiara.

I haven't seen the movie yet but the two reviews that I have read, one from CNN and the other Roger Ebert's, said it was a very good movie. I'm going to try to see it this weekend.

I have to disagree with everyone in this thread. I am an ardent Harry Potter fan and have read the entire series several times through. To expect the movies to follow the books is foolish...the two best translations of the books were the first two moves and cinematically they were easily the worst movies. I view the movies and the books as two separate entities and believe that's the way they should be viewed.

 

I LOVED this movie and thought that most everything about it was better than the previous movies. The acting was great from young to old. The kids have really grew into their roles and I have loved watching it happen.

 

Helena Bonham Carter was fantastic and probably my favorite performance in the whole movie.

This is what I was thinking after seeing it again already. I think everyone had too high of expectations for this movie. I liked the movie more than most but they left out some of the big action parts of the movie which is one thing I didnt like.

I think this post is pretty dead on. I too think a lot of people had too high expectations for this one, and I blame part of that on Warner Bros. delaying the release. It's been a long time since anything new involving HP has come out. I think 2 years since the last book and movie. Originally, this movie was supposed to be shown in November of last year, but they delayed it to "work on the film." I think it's obvious now, that they only pushed the date to 7/15 so that they could rake in more money. This is the same week that Dark Knight did so well in last year.

 

I too, think the kids (Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint) did really well in this film. If you want to see radical improvement, after watching HBP, go back and watch Sorcerer's Stone/Chamber of Secrets. And I will say again, that I think this movie is Gambon's best role as Dumbledore.

 

 

FWIW, RottenTomatoes has this one listed at 89%, tying Prisoner of Azkaban, rating-wise. Also, the Harry Potter franchise is about to surpass the James Bond franchise as the #1 movie franchise ever.

Slow if you're wanting to see blood and guts. Very good if you're interested in the progression of the three amigos - relationship-wise as well as acting-wise.

 

I'll guess that for the most part, the older members of the audience enjoyed it more than those who grew up on the books.

I've been on the Harry Potter train since I was 11 and my Nana bought me the first three for Christmas, I've read the first five of those books at least 30 times each, but 6 and 7 not as much. I was quite impressed with the way the first 5 were able to be entertaining and not stray too far from the books. If you were a casual movie-goer, I would say this movie is great, the acting is not bad, the special effects are amazing, there are laughs throughout and there aren't any boring parts. But since I've always been a big fan of the books, I wondered why in the world they added some of the additional scenes that they did. I.E.: the Death Eaters showing up at Christmas time; I'll give it a 7 outta ten. It was better than 4 and 5, but not as good as 3 IMO.

I like all the Harry Potter movies, but this one was easily the worst of the six for me personally. Were my expectations too high? Perhaps, but my expectations were based on the previous five movies, not the books. I loved the first five. This one was good, but disappointing in light of it's predecessors.

 

1 There didn't seem to be an overriding mood or tone (like the previous movies). To explain, the movies have progressively grown darker and gloomier as the series progressed. In the first, everything was new and fresh and bright, at the end of the fourth, Voldemort returned, Cedric got killed, the fifth movie had a gloomier feel. The Order of the Phoenix also showed that the people were really concerned and worried about Voldemort's return (I didn't get that sense as much from this one). It's almost like life had returned to normal to some degree...

 

2. The flow of the movie wasn't "smooth" for me. It seemed to jump from a scenes like the Death Eaters destroying the Weasley's house to the high school puppy love stuff to much.

 

I haven't read the sixth book yet, so I really can't comment on that aspect, although I usually don't worry too much about it. I realize they have to make decisions on what to cut and what to keep. Maybe the HBP just didn't translate as well to the big screen...but it seems they could have filmed and edited and created a smoother, more focused finished product.

 

But, one other thing worth noting, I've noticed that often movies that bridge the gap to the finale of a series are often the worst of the bunch. At least, that's been my opinion.

 

Overall, I enjoyed the movie. It just wasn't as good as the first five to me, thus it was a disappointment to some degree.

 

Some things in the movie weren't explained that well to me, or just didn't make sense. For example, after the Death Eaters infiltrated Hogwarts and killed Dumbledore, then marched down to destroy Hagrids house, they just vanished. Suddenly, Harry and all the kids were gathered around Dumbledore and the Death Eaters were gone. Logically, why on earth would they have just left? Unexplained, seemingly illogical occurrences in movies is something I'm not real fond of.

 

I really like the cinematography in these movies.

5 will always be the worst of any of them, same goes for the books. Five to me always just seemed like a story to fill space because something had to happen in year five, I never felt like the story advanced in five it just kind of filled space. At least with six the story progressed, still think they should have explained a lot of key things from the book though in this movie.
