CY Young NL- Haren, bad team but putting up outstanding numbers AL- Halladay- not as great the last couple outings but overall great MVP NL- Pujols, no defense needed AL- Youkilis, no strong conviction here, just the name that came to me, Longoria I guess would be in the running.

July 14, 200917 yr To those picking Halladay or Beckett over Greinke: Why? Greinke/Halladay ... Greinke has pitched more innings, allowed fewer hits, and has an ERA 73 points lower. They have the same number of wins, but Greinke plays for a team that isn't very good. Greinke/Beckett ... Greinke has pitched more innings, allowed fewer baserunners, and has an ERA well over a run lower. Beckett is 11-3 and Greinke is 10-5, but the Red Sox have the best record in the AL and the Royals are 37-51.

Beckett is also 6-0 in games he pitched when the previous game was a loss. He had two consecutive poor outings that jumped his ERA, but he has looked good in every other game.

He had two consecutive poor outings that jumped his ERA, but he has looked good in every other game.Even taking out Beckett's two bad games in April, Greinke has the better ERA. Grienke, the best I can tell, is 7-4 after a loss ... on a much weaker team, of course. In three of those losses, the offensively-challenged Royals scored a total of one run. Greinke can't help it that the rest of his team isn't very good. Bottom line ... who has been the best pitcher? Grienke, Halladay or Beckett? I think the answer is clear.
July 14, 200917 yr How many wins would Grienke have on the Red Sox team right now. I would say 15 isn't really that much of a stretch. In his 5 losses he has a total of 9 runs scored for him.
July 14, 200917 yr Grienke doesn't get the respect he deserves because he plays for the Royals, just another instance of the media attention that the Northeast teams receive due to ESPN and other media outlets.
