You can't just throw out the numbers and dismiss the teams they are on. This is easily Greinke.

He still got a shot though, even though I don't think he will win it.

Clearly better? Player 2 has a better record than both A and C. And is just a little behind on the other statistics.

Beckett's ERA is a more than a full run below that of Greinke ... one run per nine innings is a huge amount. That's effectively the distance between the best offense in the league and a team near the bottom.

 

And Beckett has a better record because he's on the best team in the league. Halladay and Greinke play for teams with sub-.500 records ... Greinke's team has the second-worst record in the league.

AL Cy Young - Roy Halladay

NL Cy Young - Tim Lincecum

 

NL MVP - Pujols - if we're going by first half award then there's no doubt Pujols wins.

AL MVP - Joe Mauer - because he's batting about .375 and he'll end up with about 115 RBI's. Probably low 30s in HRs.

Now, sure some may seem to stand out just a tad bit than others, but can you really say that one is not near the others, without a doubt in your mind?

I think the these two stats clearly show that player B is on a much better team. He is giving up better then 3 runs and still has the best record. Player A's team can't score more then 2 runs a game.

AL-Toughest one to decide I think. Morneu deserves some respect I think. Mauer I can see too. Had ARod played the whole time his numbers would be large! Longoria is a stud too.

All the debate on Halladay and Beckett/Grienke but I see a LOT of votes for Lincecum over Haren which the numbers do not really back up in my opinion. If you point to strikeouts take the K/BB rate which Haren is an outstanding 8.06/1 compared to Lincecum's 4.38/1, still awesome but comeon. ERA Haren .32 lower, WHIP Haren is under 1 for goodness sake.

 

Now if you count teams success ok that is legitimate, but pure numbers I take Haren as the first half leader.

Haren has a better ERA and better all-around numbers in a much better hitters' park. He has a tendency to wear down a little in August and September, but I think the choice is clear-cut for the first half.

Even taking out Beckett's two bad games in April, Greinke has the better ERA.

 

Grienke, the best I can tell, is 7-4 after a loss ... on a much weaker team, of course. In three of those losses, the offensively-challenged Royals scored a total of one run. Greinke can't help it that the rest of his team isn't very good.

 

Bottom line ... who has been the best pitcher? Grienke, Halladay or Beckett? I think the answer is clear.

 

Exactly what I was thinking. My vote goes to Zach Greinke.

 

You don't see a start to the season like Zach Greinke had very often. Almost that alone won the 1st half award in my eyes.

I laid out the stats that back up Haren for the first half. I'm not saying he will hold onto the lead, but in the first half the numbers are Haren's advantage IMO.

San Francisco: 49-39, 2nd Place in the NL West

Arizona: 38-51, 4th Place in the NL West.

 

I know Brandon Webb is hurt and that the Giants have Matt Cain as well, but I will still take Lincecum, the Giants being in the Wild Card hunt with Pablo Sandoval and Benji Molina leading the team in offense is pretty darn impressive to me.
