Who are your MLB First Half Award Winners?

Featured Replies

San Francisco: 49-39, 2nd Place in the NL West

Arizona: 38-51, 4th Place in the NL West.

I know Brandon Webb is hurt and that the Giants have Matt Cain as well, but I will still take Lincecum, the Giants being in the Wild Card hunt with Pablo Sandoval and Benji Molina leading the team in offense is pretty darn impressive to me.

So ... the fact that Lincecum plays on the team with the better record is the only reason he belongs above Haren?

Why penalize Haren for the Diamondbacks' problems? The fact that Webb and Conor Jackson are hurt, the bullpen blew up and several key players are underachieving with the bat has no bearing on Haren's individual performance.

Why is there such a belief that the best player/pitcher has to come from a good team?

But the thing is with Webb and Jackson the Diamondbacks would be a lot better, the Giants have no one on their roster that is one of the best at their position apart from Lincecum and Cain. That's how I feel.

I still don't see how that makes Lincecum's first half better than Harens.....

Sandoval isn't one of the best at his position? Rowand isn't, either?

Bottom line ... this is an individual award. Haren's performance speaks for itself, as done Lincecum's. Their teammates' success or failures shouldn't enter into it.

This is one thing that we're in agreement on. A Cy Young is an individual award and should, for the most part, go to the pitcher with the best numbers. If it's a close race, I could see giving the benefit of the doubt to a guy who is the ace on a contender over someone like Greinke.

With 1 month left in the season who are your picks now?

NL Cy Young - Carpenter

NL MVP - Pujols

AL Cy Young - Greinke

AL MVP - Miguel Cabrera

MVPs:

NL - Pujols

AL - Morales

CY Youngs:

NL - Wainwright

AL - Grienke

Of the 4 awards, the only one I am 100% confident in giving out at this time is the NL MVP.

NL MVP: Albert Puljos

AL MVP: Derek Jeter with Texiera, and Mauer in strong consideration

NL Cy Young: Tim Lincecum with Carpenter and Wainwright in consideration.

AL Cy Young: Grienke with Mo Rivera right behind.
