July 7, 200917 yr Give your picks and reasoning behind them. Main Card Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir: UFC Heavyweight Title Unification Lesnar by Ground and Pound in Round Two. Lesnar is a superior wrestler and won't get caught in a leg lock again. Mir can't sub him up top. BTW, Lesnar has canned hams for hands. Georges St. Pierre vs. Thiago Alves: UFC Welterweight Title GSP by unanimous decision. Alves pushes GSP to the limit, but takes a beating while doing so. Jon Fitch vs. Paulo Thiago Jon Fitch by unanimous decision. Fitch does what Koschek should have done and out wrestles Thiago. Dan Henderson vs. Michael Bisping Henderson by TKO Round 2. Other than the fact that I can;t stand Bisping, Hendo has TNT in his hands. Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Alan Belcher Akiyama by unanimous decision. UFC wants Akiyama to be a star. Belcher is tough but not skilled enough. Under Card Mark Coleman vs. Stephan Bonner Bonner by TKO Round 3. Bonner wears Coleman down and pounds him out. Mac Danzig vs. Jim Miller Miller by TKO Round 2. Miller is a buzzsaw. To tough and ganrly for Danzig. Jon Jones vs. Jake O'Brien Jones by TKO Round 1. Jones is too athletic and fast for O'Brien. Should be a highlight reel TKO. Dong Hyun Kim Vs. TJ Grant Kim by unanimous decision. Both pretty boring fighters. Look for a technical not spectacular fight. CB Dollaway Vs. Tom Lawlor Dolloway by sub Round 1. I don't like the guy, but his Peruvian necktie sub is crazy. Matt Grice Vs. Shannon Gugerty Grice by unanimous decision. Another grind it out win for Grice.
July 7, 200917 yr Lesnar - TKO, Round 1 Alves - TKO, Round 2 Fitch - Decision Henderson - TKO, Round 2 I'm taking Alves in the upset.
July 7, 200917 yr Mir Sub in round 2 Alves TKO Round 3...also taking the upset, if Alves makes weight Fitch TKO Round 2 Bisping Decision...God I hate Bisping Akiyama Decision Bonnar KO round 2 but both fighters need to hang it up Miller in a vicious knockout...Danzig gets his walking papers Jonny bones Jones in a nasty K.o.
July 7, 200917 yr Can't wait to see Jones again, hope he doesn't have a bad outing. I'll take Mir, Henderson, GSP (but expect it to be a good fight), Fitch.
July 7, 200917 yr Main Card Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir: UFC Heavyweight Title Unification Lesnar by sheer force and power. Will wrestle Mir and have his way with him on the ground. If he gets top position, its over via ground and pound. If Mir keeps it standing, its over with a Lesnar fist. Either way I am calling KO or TKO Lesnar. Georges St. Pierre vs. Thiago Alves: UFC Welterweight Title GSP via submission. Tough one to call on the outcome because even though I think GSP will win, it is hard to call by what method the win comes by. Alves was very very impressive in his last fight, but St. Pierre has the experience. Ever since Serra pulled the upset, GSP has been GSP. Alves is a guy dangerous enough to beat him, however, I just don't think he does, GSP isn't looking to let go of the belt anytime soon. Jon Fitch vs. Paulo Thiago Fitch via decision. Should be a good fight with a lot of action, I think Fitch's experience prevails. Dan Henderson vs. Michael Bisping Henderson wins via decision. I think Bisping has a great showing, and will come close to winning this one, however, I think this one belongs to Dan, making up for the Britain sweep from TUF. Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Alan Belcher Aikyama wins via TKO Under Card Mark Coleman vs. Stephan Bonnar Bonnar Mac Danzig vs. Jim Miller Danzig. Going out on a limb here, I think Mac has a lot at stake in this fight. Tall order for him to beat Miller, but somehow he gets it done. Jon Jones vs. Jake O'Brien Jones, TKO Dong Hyun Kim Vs. TJ Grant Hyun Kim CB Dollaway Vs. Tom Lawlor Tom Lawlor Matt Grice Vs. Shannon Gugerty Grice
July 7, 200917 yr Lesnar by TKO- Not sure which round but I think Brock avoids any submission attempts this time around and punishes Mir. GSP- I think it will either be a 4th or 5th round stoppage win or decision win for GSP. Alves has never gone 5 rounds and I think GSP either tko or subs him in the later rounds if it doesnt go the distance. Henderson by decision- I think it will be a decent fight but I think Henderson wrestles his way to a decision win. Fitch by decision- He also wrestles his way to a decision. Dont really know much about Akiyama so Ill go with Belcher since Ive seen him fight.
July 7, 200917 yr All the favorites should win except maybe GSP, as Alves might KO him...... Akiyama is very skilled, and I ant to see him become a star also, just worried about the transition to the cage. Jon Jones is a beast and I want to see him fight.
July 8, 200917 yr I'll take: Jones, Bonnar, Fitch, Henderson, GSP Lesnar vs. Mir: After watching the countdown show and listening to Mir try to impress America with his tremendous vocabulary and then Lesnar attempt to talk trash, I don't care who wins. Hopefully, they both get lost en route to the arena. BTW-Currently reading Forrest's new book "Got Fight?", freakin hilarious!!! Great one liners for talking trash which Frank and Brock may benefit from...
July 8, 200917 yr Alves would be a HUGE UPSET. I think he may be good enough, I'm just not sure if he's big enough. GSP used his body length to complete controll Penn, I somewhat wonder if he can do the same with Alves, though I think Alves is a good bit stronger than Penn.

I think Alves definitely needs to keep the fight standing...I don't like anyone's chances on the ground vs. GSP in the 170 pound division. Alves better have his takedown defense in top form...

Alves better have his takedown defense in top form... I just don't see that happening. Maybe early on in the first round or two, but eventually I see it going to the ground and this is a Championship fight.
July 8, 200917 yr Author GSP's wrestling is unreal. Brock may be the only guy with better wrestling in the UFC. That being said, I don't think Alves winning would be a huge upset. The guy can kick like a mule has good stand up and much power in his hands. It would be an upset, but not a huge one. Also, I like Bones Jones too. That cat is exciting.

Brocks wrestling isn't even better, he's just bigger and stronger IMO. I'm not sure if anyone has ever stopped a GSP takedown .
