Since GSP has been in the UFC I don't remember ever seeing "elite" striking from him. He's looked good at times, but against guys who aren't very good at stand up themselves.

The only guys in the UFC he has beaten via TKO are

Matt Hughes

Jay Heiron

Sean Sherk (think this was ended on the ground)

BJ Penn (he really dominated him on the ground with GnP, not stand up striking).

Matt Serra (via knees on the ground).

If you include ground and pound striking, his striking is pretty great yes. But his stand up isn't "elite" imo. It's good and yes he could kill me if I were to box/kick box with him...but it's not the best in his weight class IMO.

Alves' striking is far better than GSP's imo and if GSP tries to stand with Alves, he'll get KO'd.

I think its elite, whether its the best in the class or not.

I haven't seen Alves enough to judge him fairly. Whether his striking is better or not, I can't say. But, what I think is that his power is far better and he has a much better chin. That, coupled with the facts that he will likely be bigger and stronger than GSP and he has strong takedown defense...I like his chances. I'd say he's an underdog, but I have a feeling he'll get it done. (Although, I wouldn't be surprised if he got dominated...whether its a TKO or another 5 round clinic from GSP.)

That's what makes this fight so interesting to me. Can GSP execute the same game plan against a dynamic, powerful striker, who is bigger, stronger and good at stuffing takedowns?

If GSP wins convincingly, Dana may as well set up the superfight with Anderson Silva...although I think that's a waste of time, I'd thoroughly enjoy seeing Silva dismantle him. But, there's not much point in feeding him another victim at 170, either. Might as well cash in on the hype...

Thiago Alves

Win Ansar Chalangov TKO (Punches)

Win Derrick Noble TKO (Punches)

Loss Jon Fitch TKO (Upkick and Punches)

Win John Alessio Decision (Unanimous)

Win Tony DeSouza KO (Knee)

Win Kuniyoshi Hironaka TKO (Punch and Knee)

Win Chris Lytle TKO (Doctor Stoppage)

Win Karo Parisyan TKO (Knee and Punches)

Win Matt Hughes TKO (Flying Knee and Punches)

Win Josh Koscheck Decision (Unanimous)

Alves muay thai is far better IMO. He has ended many fights with his stand up. The results above are his fights in the UFC.

I've seen enough of Alves to know he's a better striker. His kicks, knees and punches are better. If St.Pierre gets Alves on his back, he can win. But if he can't get him down...I think Alves wins by KO.

Does everyone order the PPV's live, or where do you watch?

A friend of mine is having a party for 100. Ive only ordered 2 of them before myself. I like to go to BW3 and watch them when I can.

Well, judging from that, it certainly isn't a stretch to say his striking is better...:D

I guess what I meant was that I didn't know if Alves striking was "technically" better, or if he just had more power. Does that make sense? I think its possible for a guy to be a more dangerous striker due to his power, even though he may not be as good fundamentally. Take Chuck Liddell, for instance, I've heard a lot of people comment that his style is unorthodox and not that great from a technical standpoint, but at his best, there were few guys as dangerous on their feet. That's what I was getting at, if it makes sense.

All things considered, I'll take the guy who has more finishing power.

I haven't seen Alves much at all, and a lot of what I have seen is highlights. But, with his size, strength and striking prowess, he looks like the only guy with a shot at taking GSP's belt.

I am taking Lesnar in round 3 TKO. I think Mir will take it 3, he is a good fighter, but Lesnar has gotten much better and won't let any submissions happen again.

I'm very excited for tonight!
