I find it hilarious that this mindset is out there when

1) Saddam himself said he was purposely trying to convince everyone that he had WMD to prevent Iran from invading. HE SAID he wanted everyone to believe that he had them. Just never thought America would be the one with enough gumption to invade.

 

2) There were enough threats out there from Saddam to us and our allies.

 

3) For a FACT, Saddam had them because he used them on the Kurds. He just had disposed of them.

 

 

Serious question, what is our responsibilities through treaties to South Korea if NK would invade or bomb them? I know we were tied to the Middle East because of Israel and wondered about SK.

I thought this from the start. Get North Korea or Iran. We chose Iraq, IMO, because the powers that be thought it would be a quick "feel good" victory in the war on terror that, in hindsight, did not turn out to be just that.

 

We will have to do something with NK as time goes on. At what point do we move? During the threats? When someone actually gets hit by this little lunatic? Or when WE get hit by this little lunatic? He is pushing it to the point that ignoring it will not work. Like it or not, want it or not, the time is coming that we have to do something more than saying "stop that" or paying him more money to stop for a while....

Because heavens knows, the US has NEVER been wrong about anything.

Again, Saddam was not launching stuff into the ocean demonstrating what he had or did not have. I guess we pick and choose our ememies? Going by the Iraq rule, NK has done everything to merit us to attack them but we don't.

 

And for your Iran, we did Iran the biggest favor in the world getting rid of Saddam and as everyone knows Iran hates us with a passion and we got rid of their number one enemy.

It sounds like some of you are arguing the same point but from different sides. Come on guys, North Korea is a problem, and yes it should be delt with, if the Chinese really want to be taken seriously as a military power then they should handle the problem and prove that they are capable. We know they're supposed to be, and that the world including the US fears their military, but they're yet to prove that they're legit, it's almost as if they feel that they're scared of not looking perfect by actualy engaging a threat. This really isn't our fight, it has been hoisted upon us because yes we are the Hegiman of the world at this point, but China needs to step up.

I would agree and disagree on some of your points LBBC:

 

1. I remember that. He did brag to hold up a paper tiger. However our intel should have been much better.

 

2. Again, intel issues and leaders who, IMO, wanted an excuse to get into a war that was easier to show victory than what was unfolding in Afghanistan (what IMO should have been our greatest emphasis).

 

3. You are noting that Sadaam used them on the Kurds BEFORE the first Persian Gulf War and in the late 80's. He did not have them, IMO, after the early 90's. Nor did he have the ability to transport and utilize them on America.

 

I think you have bought the "reasons" as the honorable rationale. I think many have not because of what transpired. It's almost always in the eye of the side we pretty much started with at the beginning of the day. :thumb:

I for one never supported us going into Iraq. I thaought our mission was not complete in Afgan. But I think we have more of a reason to blow the heck out of North Korea than we ver had with Iraq.

I am leaning toward this way, though I'm not in favor on going on the offensive agains North Korea just yet, but I don't rule it out entirely.

We can't deal with North Korea without China being involved. We just need to make sure that we get them on our side and let them lead the way. It is their backyard and they have already been quite unhappy with out promises to protect Taiwan.

They don't necessarily have to admit it. I was in the vast minority of my friends that did not support the Iraqi war. I can count on one hand the people that I know that were with me, thus, everyone else was on the opposite side. I remember who they were. ;D Of course, I wasn't a BGP member back then, so I'll have to take all on here at their word.
