July 2, 200917 yr Was at the game tonight, 15 rows up behind 1B. Bruce's baserunning on this play was ridiculous, low-caliber knothole-level play. There was absolutely no chance the ball was going to be caught, no reason for him not to be running after contact, and certainly no reason not to be hustling once he did decide to take off. Perhaps it is time for Bruce to start learning from the bench. Everyone in my section at the game had the same feeling. Seems like all 20K people knew that was a hit but Bruce didn't.

I meant to post this last night.....But Haren's delivery seems awful close to a balk to me....There were times he would just stop at the balance point. From what I understand you can not stop your delivery like that Haren's delivery is a thing of beauty. Exactly like the drill that every pitcher practiced at a young age. As long as it's consistent & not intended to deceive the hitter / runner, he's fine. Everyone in my section at the game had the same feeling. There were a few times against Votto last night it seemed like he stopped for 3 or 4 seconds at the balance point. The majority of the time he never came to a complete stop. I have no problem with him slowing down and almost coming to a complete stop...but there were some times he actually stopped and just sat there....something should have been done about that.

July 2, 200917 yr Author I don't get the Burton/Sutton move. I'm with you. That's why my thoughts leaned toward a trade of Encarnacion, especailly when he didn't play in the Bat's last game because of manager's decision. It makes no sense.

Why bring him up now?I can't speak for the Reds, but I'm guessing that his .388 OBP in Louisville got their attention, given their rampant problems in that area in Cincinnati. Maybe they feel that Sutton is just now ready to take a shot at the majors. Plus, he's already on the 40-man roster, and if he can make a difference in just one or two games, he's given the Reds a boost. Richar has played very little 3B in his career and Hairston is probably needed to cover SS more often with Gonzalez out.

Kind of like it was in Chicago, when Jim Hendry would give him some pieces to work with and Dusty just did whatever he wanted. Jocketty and LaRussa were always on the same page in St. Louis ... that's one reason I still think Dusty won't be managing the Reds next year.
