June 26, 200917 yr New info has HMS having a 6th, 7th and 8th grade team for next year. I know it was tried before, but if Coach Flynn was the reason for the new move, great job coach.

June 26, 200917 yr Tom Buten would be a great choice for one of the teams. He already coaches a few of the boys on an AAU team. He does a very nice job with them.
June 27, 200917 yr Tom Buten would be a great choice for one of the teams. He already coaches a few of the boys on an AAU team. He does a very nice job with them. Does he have a son that will be trying out for one of these teams?

Hold on------ the wheels are in motion but all the hurdles have not been cleared as of yet. Sixth grade boys and girls basketball is on the agenda for the July Ft Thomas Board of Education meeting. With the backing of the HMS administration and the HHS athletic dept. it looks as if this will happen. We will have to wait til after July 13th to know for sure.
June 27, 200917 yr Does he have a son that will be trying out for one of these teams? I thought Tom was an assistant on the 7th grade team last year? His son will be on the 8th grade team this year..
June 27, 200917 yr I thought Tom was an assistant on the 7th grade team last year? His son will be on the 8th grade team this year.. Thanks. I knew his son was at the middle school, but I wasn't sure what grade.
June 28, 200917 yr Tom does have a son going into the 8th grade and he did help coach Butler in the beginning of the season. From what I gather, he did not like the direction that coach Butler took and his duties as assistant dwindled by his own choice as the year progressed. I hope the program gets past the board. I'll be looking for further info on the 13th.
June 28, 200917 yr Kevin Nieporte will be coaching the 7th grade team and with any luck Mike Vories will be coaching the 8th grade team. Decision on the 6th grade team will be made at the July BOE meeting. It is my understanding that this item has a very good opportunity of passing, but only time will tell. Who the coach is will be up to Mike Flynn and/or Keith Faust. I have also heard some things about a middle school booster club being started up. Anyone have any word on that?

I hadn't heard that but it's a great idea. Hopefully some dedicated folks will step up and get it going. Unfortunately from my experiences, I know that there is a lot of people that will gripe and complain about things and a very few number of people that will actually get involved and solve problems. Let's see if some of the most vocal complainers will now be willing to spend the time.

June 29, 200917 yr From what I understand there will also have to be a 6th grade girls team added. I'm not sure about volleyball, or cheerleading.
June 30, 200917 yr From what I understand there will also have to be a 6th grade girls team added. I'm not sure about volleyball, or cheerleading. There does not have to be a 6th grade girls team, it just has to be offered. If the numbers do not support it then there does not have to be a team. I still believe that the numbers on the girls side will go up and perhaps kids that otherwise might not have tried out will in fact play now. Have also heard that Mike Vories will in fact be returning to the sidelines for the 8th grade team. Hopefully the 6th grade coach is smart enough to get him involved in preseason practices with his team.

Well the big Board of Education meeting is this evening. Does this become reality or not? I am betting that it does in fact pass and there will finally be 6th grade basketball at HMS.
