What does George Rogers Clark need to do to improve in 2009/2010? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

GRC will be loaded next year. Main thing will be to take care of business and stay focused and healthy. When it gets to tourney time it takes some luck even if you are as good as they will be.

About the only thing I think they could improve upon is to let Mrs. Goldie cook them pregame meals.:thumb:

They need to develop a point guard between now and December. They have players that are capable.

GRC's front court will be one of the best in the state next year with Zollo, Rogers, and Purvis. They need to find another guard though to compliment Stenzel in the back court. As we saw in the 10th region final last year, you have to have guards that can handle pressure. You can't rely on your big guys to try and pass over top of the press.

 

With that said though, I think GRC should be favored to win the 10th next year and make some noise at Rupp as long as they stay healthy and focused.

That is the main thing we have to do, is try and stay injury free this year. We still were very competitive with all the injuries last year. Getting Purvis back and healthy will be HUGE.

If that is the only time you saw Zollo play last year I can see why you may think he was out of shape...he wasn't out of shape. He suffered a high ankel sprain the night before and was moving very slow. I assure you Coach H will have the boys in shape.

 

In finding the right PG, I look for Coach H to try different combinations during the season to see what and who will make us most successful come post season. The front runners at this point could be Brewer, Martin, and Kendred.

 

On the developing a bench...coach has already been working on that during summer games.

I agree with you Gold. The only thing they lack is a true PG and they will need to develop some rotations where your best ball handlers are handling the ball. I look for the Cards to make some noise next year and going to Rupp. They will be battle tested come 40th District Tournament time with the schedule I am hearing about.

Robbie Stenzel is the best player in the 10th region and in my opinion will win Mr. Basketball in 2010-2011. With that said, this team will go as far as Stenzel can take them over the course of the next two seasons. To win a state championship you need that one player who can take over a game and hold a team together. A great front court is nice to have, but guard play is the area that dominates KHSAA basketball. If GRC develops a servicable point guard and Stenzel keeps doing what he does best this team can bring another state title to the 10th region. I compare Robbie's importance to this team to that of Chris Lofton and Darius Miller to their respective State Championship teams. A Mr. Basketball candidate and a good supporting cast is usually a recipe for success in the state of Kentucky.

I would consider Clark County the favorite too.. but saying they're the heavy favorite is a little much. I would almost consider Mason County and Clark County 1a and 1b in the 10th. Mason County returns Gilbert, Pawsat, Setty, Barner (if he's back) and has Manship, the kid from Montgomery County.
