Some of the best I can think of would be:

Paul Wilburn 1988-1990 LB

Paul wasn't the biggest or fastest players but he had a nose for the ball.

 

Wilburn was who I was thinking of. Very solid football player.

Charlie Siffel RB 1967-69 518 carries 3,102 yds 6.0 avg

I believe Charlie was the first ever all stater for SK, he was the all time rusher with over 3000 before it was broken by Daniel Morrison.

 

He also was commended on Kick-Off Magazine's "Top 100 Backs" national list at the end of the 1969 season.

I think Miles will secure that spot after this season. Charles Siffel and Alan Mullins were very good players that should be brought up in conversation.

 

Mullins is probably who I'd say is #2 behind Mullins. Honestly Mullins was apparently a stud without much help around him, but I wasn't around to see him play WAYYYY back in the day.:lol: SK's had a few players go D1 over the years but none were "Major D1" commitments, atleast not at the time, some of those schools are becoming more legit over the past few years such as UK, UC.

Alan Mullins QB/RB 1979-81 482 carries 3,016 yds 6.3 avg

Alan held the single game rushing record prior to Miles breaking it last season. Played Wr at WKU and some in the CFL.

DMo was a treat to coach and watch, around this time frame SK started to turn the corner from some horrific seasons prior. DMo went on to play a bit a Morehead St.

 

Miles Simpson 2006- 354 carries 2,726 yds 7.70 avg

As you can see, he should eclipse the school record before the midway portion of the season.

On the defensive side of the ball I would add:

 

Mike Webster 1991-1994

One of the nastiest guys I know, attended UK, then left for Thomas More, played on one of their best teams, then went back to UK and started at OG in front of Tim Couch. Played for Barcelona in NFL Europe, and later had a tryout with Jacksonville. I believe Tony Brackens injured Mike's shoulder and ended any hope of a chance in the NFL.

Craig "Nails" Cooper 1999-01 LB

"Nails" wasn't very big at all but could turn the lights off of the opposition. All time leader with 302 tackles, and I can still see the hit he put on Beechwood's, Martella, I believe Gametime was in attendance that evening. Craig hails from a family of great wrestlers, they have to have close to 10 state titles between them.

 

What is our school record?

1966 was the first season. Five playoff appearances, 5-5 record with losses to CovCath, Trinity (3) and Ryle. All but Ryle went on to win the title in their respective class.

 

Even though we've only been a handful of times, atleast we can say we were beaten by the best that year, for the most part.

Brent Bishop, he's currently 4th all time in rushing with a bit over 2700 yards.

 

BTW, had no idea Bishop rushed for that many yards.

I knew Morrison had it, I was in uniform the night he broke the record, just couldn't recall what he ended up getting it to. I remember his SR year against Woodford County he torched them for well over 200 yards.

Haha I said well over 200. That was before all of my knee surgeries, when I could remember stuff. Pain killers pretty much killed most of my hs memories.:lol::cry::lol:

The best high school players I recall coming from Simon Kenton have to be Mike Webster and Matt Daniels from the early 90's. They both got some serious college recognition, possibly more than Miles. Not sure what either went on to do on the college level but I do know they had some serious offers. Their team just didn't succeed like SK did last year.

I can't comment on Mullins' senior year but he had lots of talent around him in his previous two seasons.

We've been lurking.:lol: SK was kind of like UK in regards to they were always considered a "basketball school" for many many years after winning the state championship back in 1981; especially since up til this year we were the only 9'th region team to have ever won it.

I didn't get to see every game their Sr year but the D coordinator believes David Funke was the best player on the defensive side of the ball. He went on to play at GTown. Miles would run circles around Daniels.
