Harrison County 2 Trinity 0

Featured Replies

Please elaborate. Thanks.
I'm not speaking for thsrocks, but I wondered about it, too.

After the second inning was completed, the game was suspended, even though it wasn't raining and it appeared that the game might have been able to be played to completion.

I was told that Trinity wanted to play the game until the end and that Harrison County didn't even want to start it that night.

Harrison and Trinity should have played on Friday, the Semi's on Saturday and the Championship on Sunday. No team in the State Tournament whether it be Harrison County or Trinity should have had to play 2 games in one day.

You can't alter the state tournament for two teams.

Trinity and Harrison County should have played to completion on Thursday night, or as far as they could get, weather permitting.

I would like to see the KHSAA put in some type of curfew rule so as to prevent this from happening in the future. If the state decides no inning can start after 11:30 (or something similar), then that is fine. Pick it up the next day.

But I don't believe the KHSAA currently has a rule like that. Because of that, the game should have been continued.

Did the KHSAA suspend the games, or did the umps? I was told that once a game starts, it is up to the umps to call it, suspend it, etc.---not the jurisdictional body. If the KHSAA suspended it, did the umps agree---or did they even have a voice in the matter?

Julian Tackett was on the field when the decision was made, so I am assuming that it was the KHSAA.

This obviously gave an advantage to the team that played the winner of these two. What should have been done is that the semi's should have been pushed back a day, but the pitching rules should have applied as if it were the original schedule. This way no team would have an advantage with either pitching or playing an opponent who played a DH.

I understand your argument, but weather is something that can't be helped. The KHSAA needs to do everything possible to stay on schedule.

And that will be even more important starting next year when it's a 16-team event.

It's a disaster waiting to happen ...

What was the "push" or motivation to change the state format to have 16 teams at the state tournament?

From what I understand, both the coaches and Applebee's Park pushed for it.

Of course, the football coaches supposedly wanted six classes, too ...

The decision was at best curious...first thing...if you are going to play two innings...why start the game at all...I was at the game...I was shocked...it was a ridiculous decision. The bad weather was gone....people and players from both teams waited out the rain delay from the previous game. Tackett came out of the stands and called it. Umpires didnt. Of course they couldnt make a good call anyway...they were horrible...absolutely horrible. Everyone knew Littrell wasnt going to play the next day due to his grandfather's funeral. I accidentally heard some conversation regarding that. It is a shame the tournament had to be tainted regarding this. Harrison County's win under these circumstances isnt fair to them. They deserved better. Obviously Trinity deserved better also. Besides 4 blown calls that didnt go Trinity's way..they hit into a triple play...out hit Harrison 9-3...and got beat. Those things happen..but you have to admit...for everyone concerned...it was a shame and ridiculous. These kind of decisions allow Kentucky as a state to remain behind other states regarding athletics. Whether there was a bias concerning this decision...hummmmmmmmmmmm......??????????? I was with some Lex. Cath. folks...they said that night that they were sorry for what happened to Trinity. I personally dont know if it was a decision made from a lack of intelligence or an extreme bias. Doesnt matter. It would be nice for the KHSAA to be run at a higher level.
