I used to be a huge boxing fan growing up. Pryor vs Arguello Fight I being one of my alltime greatest fights I watched. Was a big fan of Ray Mancini, Hector Camacho, and the Hit Man Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard. I have not followed it for years and really do not know much as to what is going on in the boxing world.

 

Any good website to kind of get updated on the champs?

Since you've never watched it maybe you shouldn't voice your opinion on it until you do. How could something strike you as similar to something else if you have never seen it?

You have to remember MMA has only been a sport for 16 years where boxing has been around for over 100 years. Its a really young sport still and there are so many people who dont know much about or know anything about it at all so todays MMA stars wont be nearly that big.

 

You mentioned Chuck Liddell and yeah he is prolly the biggest star the sport has seen so far. In his prime days he was making around 9 million dollars a year which is outstanding for such a young sport. The MMA business model is really different from boxing's so it will be quite a while if ever that the MMA stars make what Boxings biggest guys do. Although the mid level and undercard fighters in MMA do make more then the boxing guys at those levels do.

Also don't have the problem of having corrupt promoters or 100 different belts in MMA either. Most people consider the UFC to have the best fighters and the best champions (aside from Fedor).

I think the UFC has good management right now. Good enough to prevent something like that from happening.

 

If it ever gets sold...who knows.

I boxed for about 15 years as an amatuer. I love "the sweet science". My favorite fighter today is Manny Pacquiao. I wish we had a heavyweight division to write home about. I think an interesting heavy would put boxing back in the public eye.

The Aaron Pryor vs. Alexis Arguello fights too...that first one was incredible!

I'm a boxing fan, I love sitting down and scoring the fight, I've got my wife doing the same. I know De LaHoya is becoming big in the fight game as a promoter, and hopefully one day they can unify the belts, at this point there are too many champions.

I can appreciate the athleticism and strategy involved in it. I'm just not into it. And yes, high school wrestling looks kind of gay to me as well. I have warmed up some to it over the past couple years, however.

 

Just because I think it looks homoerotic doesn't mean I think the practitioners are actually gay. That's just silly, and you're speaking from emotion rather than logic.

 

And it's not even close to what boxing was, especially in the '60s and '70s. It seems highly unlikely that any MMA guys will ever reach the superstar status that guys like Ali, Frazier, Robinson, Louis, Foreman, etc. enjoyed. Even today, as boxing is on the decline, nobody in MMA can claim to be as big a star as Oscar De La Hoya or Floyd Mayweather.

Ok, I have watched it once, I watched the Ken Shamrock fight two or three years back when it was on Spike. But I probably still don't know what I'm talking about.

See above, I didn't mean to touch a nerve; it's just not my cup of tea and we all have biases against things we don't know anything about.

 

But NHS, I would absolutely love a fight between Mayweather and Pacqiaou. That would be one of the better fights of the past 20 years IMO.
