No one teaches them fundamentals, just as no on teaches a big man a good sky hook. You can do anything if you apply yourself. Haven't you ever had a good teacher tell you this? They did me, but it didn't do one spek of good.

I really think it may be something you have to be born with a knack for, and very few people are. For example, I could work really, really hard, but I don't think I could ever throw a knuckleball, especially at a very competitive and consistent level.

Because dunking takes far more energy to do, and leaves guys vulnerable to contact underneath. The Sky Hook is a relatively effortless shot, and certainly played a big part in The Big Fella's longevity. Like Dunleavy said in the video, "If you want to make tens of millions of dollars, learn this shot. If not, keep doing what you're doing." Look, if a kid is going to be 6-10 or more, you can usually tell it when they're in elementary school. Once a kid hits that first big growth spurt, somebody needs to be teaching them footwork and how to do the Sky Hook. Simple as that. Even if the kid never makes it to 6-10 or more, what player couldn't use a shot like that in their arsenal?

And I'm not just saying this because I can hardly do it.

Kareem began to concentrate on that shot in his Junior Season at UCLA because the NCAA had "outlawed" the Dunk shot after his Sophomore season. It made him a more complete player than anyone going into the NBA. Remember, his second year in the league he and the Big O took the Bucks to the NBA title. Shaq didn't do that. Nor Jordan. Nor Kobe. Nor, well you get the idea. It's rare and he was just that special. I don't think there's ever been a more athletic and gifted center than Kareem. :thumb:

June 12, 200917 yr I'm money with the hook... for a stint in college to crack everybody up I would pull it out in intramural games. It was devestating. While my nickname is Stick there was a short while that it was Pooh. My friends made me put a patent on the "Pooh Hook" lol. Seriously I don't understand why big men don't work on it. Much like the crane kick if done properly there is no defense!

I believe he said 5th grade, but it all started with the Mikan drill. I actually did the MD at the park the other day, I kept praying that noone would drive by and wonder what the heck I was doing.
