Because dunking takes far more energy to do, and leaves guys vulnerable to contact underneath. The Sky Hook is a relatively effortless shot, and certainly played a big part in The Big Fella's longevity. Like Dunleavy said in the video, "If you want to make tens of millions of dollars, learn this shot. If not, keep doing what you're doing."

 

When you're freakishly athletic & very tall it doesn't take much effort to dunk.

 

For example, I will dunk on you with an 8 ft. rim all day. When you're 6'10'', it's like playing on an 8 ft. rim to the rest of us.

Luke Harangody from Notre Dame would not have anywhere near the amount of points that he has had in the NCAA if it weren't for the sky hook.
