Health insurance ‘haves’ to pay for ‘have-nots’?

Featured Replies

As part of a health insurance reform package now before Congress, some of the 164 million Americans who are covered by employer-provided health plans could be asked to give up at least part of the longstanding tax exemption granted to such compensation.

It’s an idea likely to be met with howls of opposition if it makes it into the final version of health insurance legislation that President Barack Obama is pushing.

The idea of limiting the tax break for employer-provided insurance gained momentum last week, when Obama told senators that he’d consider it as one ingredient of the health insurance reform bill he wants Congress to pass by early August, when the Senate starts a one-month recess.

Aren't we paying for the "have nots" currently?

Right and we will still be paying for them plus significantly more with another mismanaged government run program.

I asked once before to those who want more government programs, can someone name for me one government program that runs more efficiently and at a lower cost than its private equivalent (if there is one).

Another exercise in class warfare that seems to be a favorite weapon of socialists such as Obama.:puke:

As is currently considered, if a worker making $40,000 (taxable comp) per year has a family health insurance plan paid by the company at a cost of $10,000 per year to the company, that worker will now have taxable comp

of $50,000 under the new rules.

But since Obama pledged to only raise taxes on those making over $250,000 per year, how will this work???? Oh wait, I know. He just basically lied to everybody, so the new rules will work out just fine.:D

I had no idea Obama was also a proctologist in addition to being the POTUS.

I think it will only apply to those believers that voted for him. Surely they won't mind. This is the change they can believe in.

If your numbers are anywhere close to being representative then that amounts to a HUGE tax increase. Even at a 15% marginal take rate that amounts to at $1500 increase.

Will this go for any portion of premiums that employers pay? In other words say I make $40,000 with $12,000 in health care benefits. My employers pays for 2/3 of this or $8,000. Does that me that my new taxable comp will be $48,000?

Yes. I'm not sure if it would be subject to FICA and Medicare.

Not sure what to say about this.

Just say, "Thank you sir. May I have another."

Do we at least get free Vasoline? Did we really elect this liar.

Just say, "Thank you sir. May I have another."

Can I at least get a kiss first?

If you all will recall, Obama blistered McCain during the campaign when McCain proposed this very thing.

He is a liar and a scammer. I challenge someone to defend him on this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this one of several possible ideas being considered?

If I remember correctly, Obama also promised to consider many ideas/viewpoints when making decisions.
