I'm heading out to go shark fishing... Cut bait and walking out to the second sandbar seems like a good idea, but I'll let you know for sure later!

I hooked what appeared to be a shark last night at the edge of dark. I was using a cut-up ladyfish and whatever it was hit so hard that it almost pulled the poll out of my hand. It broke the water and it was big whatever it was. When I tried to set the hook, it just straightened my hook out and kept swimming. It was cool but honestly pretty scary.

We have a place in Destin and try and get down there 4-5 times per year. Needless to say, we love it down there.

Our hands down favorite restaurant is The Red Bar http://theredbar.com, which is in Grayton Beach, about a 20 minute drive. They only have 4-5 items on the menu each night, but I promise you the food is excellent, and it's one of the more reasonably priced places around.

I'd also reccomend breakfast at Another Broken Egg. They have a few locations (one in Destin, one on 30A towards Grayton Beach, and one in the lobby of the Sandestin Hilton.

Mcguires Pub, which someone else mentioned, is very good, but a bit pricey.

Finally, we really like AJ's for their blackened grouper. AJ's is down by the fishing docks. After dinner you can step outside and walk around the marina and over to a new little shopping area nearby.

If you have any other Destin questions, feel free to PM me. Enjoy your trip...

Amazing place...it is a must go IMO.

Don't know if you can get over to the east side.. Shuttlwe launch 6/13. Just saw the Atlantis piggy backed in on a 747 last Tues. Awesome!

Piccalos/Red Bar is a pretty cool place especially on a rainy day since you have to drive a little.

Went to a little place called Elmo's tonight. It was all you can eat crab legs with live entertainment. I also tried some crawfish and various types of shrimp. It was really good.

I attempted to take an outdoor nap on the front porch swing with my 2-year old son, but we were awakened by a neighbor that decided to trim palm trees with a chain saw (see picture). For some reason, my son thought the man was a pirate, so he started saying, "Look daddy, pirate! Arhhhh!"

The Cape is a good 4 to 5 hour drive from Destin.

He should be able to see the launch from where he is, if it's not cloudy that day. It'll look like a tiny sun climbing skyward from the horizon, and it leaves a large exhaust trail.

We can see them here on clear days and get a nice view of the shuttle itself with good set of binoculars, depending on flight path. However, Destin may be too far away for that.

I've seen a couple of shuttle launches from Daytona Beach and they are breath taking.

I didn't learn my lesson the first time... I am heading out for an evening of shark fishing. This time, we are going to be extra smart and chum the waters with raw fish

I was at Cocoa Beach. Missed the launch by 1 week.
