June 5, 200917 yr Tons of great food around Destin--too many good places to mention. The kids will love The Track, lots of little kid rides and some fun go carts for adults, too. You will not have shortage of things to do in Destin.
June 5, 200917 yr I'm going to Destin in a couple of weeks. Deep sea fishing is a blast. Something that I experienced a few months ago. Non-stop action. We stayed in a rental house in a gated community across from the beach. It was very nice. Most of the Tom Thumb stores sell fountain drinks (good, mind you) and if you keep your cup, most will let you get free refills whenever you want. The Bass Pro Shops is really nice. There are a lot of boats to tour around it too. You'll have tons of fun.
June 5, 200917 yr Not sure what it's called, and someone may have mentioned it already, but there's a great irish place to eat in Destin. Great atmosphere
June 5, 200917 yr We have a place in Destin and try and get down there 4-5 times per year. Needless to say, we love it down there. Our hands down favorite restaurant is The Red Bar http://theredbar.com, which is in Grayton Beach, about a 20 minute drive. They only have 4-5 items on the menu each night, but I promise you the food is excellent, and it's one of the more reasonably priced places around. I'd also reccomend breakfast at Another Broken Egg. They have a few locations (one in Destin, one on 30A towards Grayton Beach, and one in the lobby of the Sandestin Hilton. Mcguires Pub, which someone else mentioned, is very good, but a bit pricey. Finally, we really like AJ's for their blackened grouper. AJ's is down by the fishing docks. After dinner you can step outside and walk around the marina and over to a new little shopping area nearby. If you have any other Destin questions, feel free to PM me. Enjoy your trip...
June 5, 200917 yr I'll be going to Destin in late July after spending 4 days at Disney World. I've never been, and I'm looking forward to it. Here is the house we are renting. Where are you staying Wireman? http://www.resortquestdestinvacations.com/rental/house.html?ID=2888&Avail=2009-08-15&Stay=7 You either have a huge family or there's another family staying with you.
June 5, 200917 yr You either have a huge family or there's another family staying with you. It will be my wife, two kids, and myself, with my brother in law, his wife, and their two kids.
June 5, 200917 yr Oh man I love Destin. The beach is awesome and so clean! Go to the Back Porch for breakfast!
June 5, 200917 yr Here is the one we're staying at: http://www.vrbo.com/99479 Your place looks to be about a mile east of my folks place...:thumb:
June 6, 200917 yr We are going to Destin the end of the month. It has been about 8 years since we were there. The last time we ate at a place called Pompano Joe's, maybe the best fish I've ever had. They also had a deal with some of the local fishing boats that if you chartered your boat there, when you brought your catch back they would prepare it for you that night.
June 6, 200917 yr Author We arrived at 5:00 a.m. this morning and headed to the beach (couldn't check-in until 10:00). We caught 8 fish early this morning (7 ladyfish and a snook).
