We went a couple of summers ago and it was a blast. Things were a little expensive, but the the overall atmosphere was very nice.

The area is just beautiful!!!!!!!!!

A very beautiful place for certain. I would agree that things did seem a little steep for the ole wallet!

W/that said, vacation is for letting go and relaxing and having fun, away from the stress of our every day world. So w/that in mind, I think you and your family will have a great time. The white sand beaches are gorgeous!

Anyone have any advice on things for kids to do? (kids 5 and under)

SanDestin is probably my favorite vacation spot.

Captin Daves is a good hangout place. Doughnut Hole is a nice little place to eat a lot of homemade sugar stuff and is a family type place. There was about 8 people in there when I saw my dad shaking. Bart Starr was sitting at the table beside us. My wife asked when he was leaving if that was him. He came over to shake hands and she knocked a coke in my lap lol. He was AWESOME!!! He probably talked to us a good 15-20 minutes.

Seaside isn't too far away and a pretty neat place if it rains one day. Not much to do but a bunch of pastel looking places and little shops. I wouldn't drive that far unless you are really bored though. There are some REALLY good outlet malls in Destin. You will see the strip of them. Bass Pro shop is like it is everywhere...AWESOME! Good golf around. Water and beaches are amazing but it has had it's fair share of shark attacks the last few years so stick around with the kids and don't get deep at all! My brother in law does a ton of business down there to please sales clients. We used his Captain and brought in about 30 fish. Probably caught over 100. I can check and see if I can get his name if you want it. I'd say it's fairly expensive unless you can get some people together and go. It was the best ocean fishing trip I've had by far! Florida St is a couple hours away but not worth the drive with little ones. There's a couple other places to eat that I don't remember the name but can ask him. I LOVE IT THERE! It is a little pricey though.

They've got putt putt, water bumper boats etc. I'm pretty sure down around Ft Walton which is maybe 20 minutes at the most there is a dolphin show etc. They would like that. I haven't been but it looked good for kids.

Sounds good. We are really looking forward to it. We are going with another family and we all rented a big house for the week, which will be much cooler than a hotel.

As for the sharks - that's good news because we are going to do a couple days of serious fishing :thumb:

Last guys I was with in Miami snagged a big hammerhead. It cost him over a grand to ship it home lol.

The guy in Destin was good. We caught a ton of big fish mostly Red Snapper, Grouper, a few Dolphin, King Fish I think it might have been. Grouper tasted the best. We went out really early to catch bait. Slept a couple of hours while they drove us further then drank/fished all day. They bring you back and clean them there then if you want the ship them across the street to a packing place. We picked them up on ice there.

I think most of the boats go out around Captain Daves. I'll try to see if I can find the guy that took us. His son was close to our age (1st mate) and was a really good guy. Late in the trip he whipped out his photo albumn. I was blown away with what was in the ocean. Biggest fish he caught was around 800 lbs I think it was!:scared:

Have they fixed the traffic problem yet? Its been years since I've been there but the traffic was killer. Too many people for the main drag. Traffic started to get very heavy late afternoon for the early dinner rush.

I haven't been in a few years but you are right. It is AWFUL around dinner time! Good to get out early for dinner btw.

Yep try the boat house for Happy Hour the BEST EVER and use plenty of lotion while at the beach. Jet Ski or Pontoon rental in the bay is always a great time. Have Fun!!!
