June 4, 200917 yr Author He's hitting .256 with 9 HR. McLouth had a great year last season and that's how / why he got the extension. I didn't realize the Braves were that desperate for power. He'll fit in well in Atlanta. But, he's not going to match last year's production... Why couldn't he match last years production? He's young...he could surpass it.

Last year was a career year for him. If I did my math right McLouth is on pace to hit 32 homers and 122 RBI's right now. That would be a great addition to any lineup. If he puts up those types of numbers, I'd be very impressed & a little surprised. CC, Locke, rated the Braves' seventh-best prospect going into the season, was a second-round pick in 2006. After posting strong peripherals last season at Single-A Rome, the lefty with low-90s heat was struggling with his control at High-A Myrtle Beach this season. His current numbers include a 5.56 ERA and a 1.610 WHIP in 10 starts. LINK Hernandez, the Braves' fourth-ranked prospect heading into the season, is a plus defender with speed, but he's almost completely without power. To his credit, he's holding his own at .316/.361/.387 in his first taste of Double-A this season. Hernandez will have to improve his plate discipline to make it as a lead-off hitting centerfielder. And... Morton has mastered Triple-A the past two seasons, but his 4-8 record with a 6.15 ERA in 15 starts in the second half of last season give reason for pause. In his defense, he was pitching with a back injury and lost 25 pounds late last year. With a low-90s fastball and four legitimate pitches, Morton could quickly find his way into the back end of the Pirates rotation. Particularly since they were able to keep their best prospects. I could understand your argument if he was around 34-35. But he is not. He is 27 years old. His best years are ahead of him. His numbers of increased every year. He hit 13 homers in 07, 26 in 08 and has 9 already in 09.

They get immediate help from McLouth and he'll be there for at least 2-3 years.

He hit 13 homers in 07, 26 in 08 and has 9 already in 09. Don't get me wrong, I like McLouth a lot. He has a shot to be a 20/20 guy for a while. They gave up some decent prospects but they were guys who were not going to produce in the MLB for a while. They get immediate help from McLouth and he'll be there for at least 2-3 years. I agree. I love the move from Atlanta's standpoint. From Pittsburgh's...well, they weren't going anywhere anyway.

He indicated he'd be open to returning to the Braves, and instead they expressed their lack of interest and he returned to the Mets, going a respectable 13-8. The Braves compounded their mistake by then signing him the next year when he was already done. And lastly, for whatever reason they deemed again to re-sign Glavine instead of keeping Smoltz, which was pretty much unforgivable to me. I like Glavine, but his career is over, and he's in denial about it. That said, I wish the Braves had released him at the beginning of the year (or rather, not signed him) rather than have him work to get back and then cut him loose when it looked like he was ready to return.
