I didn't attend the game but I did receive a phone call from a friend who did and AJ Smith started for Beechwood.

This lends credence to the argument that Beechwood's win over Cov Cath in the regional final was one of the all time northern ky upsets.

Well, this doesnt look good for the tigers as they throw their ace and he gets shelled.

Crickets...

YIKES. Advantage HC. Game and probably set and match.

Martin gets the win for the breds as he improves his record to 4-0. The breds put on a hitting show tonight as they scored 9 runs in the first inning against Beechwoods ace pitcher, AJ Smith. Thomas led of with a home run to set the game off and breds just kept on rolling after that. Martin did not have his best stuff tonight but still battled hard to get the win. Case relieved Martin in the first because he was having trouble throwing stikes but then came back in the second to finish out the game. Congrats Breds and lets keep it going.

What was the deal with Smith? Did he get the homerun hit off him and just fell apart mentally, or was he just not throwing well.

 

I know this is not what anyone will want to hear, but this is not very surprising. Beechwood should be proud to be where they are, and they've had a good season. But it ends here..Harrison will take this in the next game. Don't hang your heads though...I know I'd love for CovCath to be where you are right now, as would they.

Don't look for Harrison to throw Dailey on Wednesday unless they have to. They need to find that 3rd pitcher if they want to make a run at the State. Look for Chasteen or Fowler to get the nod on the mound for the Breds. Dye, Durbin, Case and Hill may also see some action on the mound. Good luck Thorobreds only 4 more to win!

Thomas led of the game with a home run. Eric Sanders was hit(nicked) by a pitch while Matthew Dye had a sacrafice bunt to move him to second. Chasteen hit a bullet back up the middle to score Dye. Fowler struck out and then Martin hit another ball up the middle to score Chasteen. Thompson doubled to the right center gap to score Martin. Case then hit another right center field double to score Thompson. Taylor Hill then hit another ball up the middle to score Case. My memory is unable to tell me what happened next but this is how the breds got started the first time through the lineup.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, Smith's last few starts have not been very good. Hopefully for him he turns it around over the summer as he gets ready for Murray.

 

The run might be over for the Tigers, but what a run it was. To come out of no where to win region. Some people thought CCH had a free pass to the sectionals and probably should have. I am not sure this game or inning shows that the Tigers do not belong here. They have showed signs of brilliance this year. Hopefully they can turn it around in the next game.

The Tigers dug themselves in a deep hole in the first inning and never got out. Hopefully they will regroup and come out ready for round two.
